Hi folks.

Today I took delivery of some parts to freshen up the front suspension on my 1989 350I.

I've got a lower arm off and the bush out but the metal sleeve in the new one is too long to fit in the chassis, see photos below showing old and new bushes.

I beleive the bush is from Mk3,4 and 5 Cortina, so were there two sizes or something?

They are both genuine Ford bushes, manufactured by Boge and have different Boge part numbers on them.

Thanks,

Martin.

Did some Wedges have Granada lower arms then?

I know they are very similar to Cortina ones, but not sure exactly what the difference is.

Thanks.

Pretty much the same but a bit longer I think; the baljoints are different by a few mm as well. Not used on wedges as far as I know. What Boge numbers do you have? I'll dig my book out and see what was on the ones I took out last year.

Aah, I see.

The numbers I have are:

Original; 2-30-005082 (I think, the last four numbers are slightly worn away)

New; 2-30-005054

Thanks!

Yep, I have 2-30-005082-01-08830 (maybe 08880), Ford 74BB-3069-AB. It should be 69mm overall length, 30 diameter excluding 'flanges', 18mm steel tube with 12mm bore.

The upper bushes (for reference) are Ford 74BB-3068-A-A, Gimetall 073535.

Spring rubber seat is 76BB-559(9?)-CB and antiroll bar mounting bush 74BB-5484-AA.

Ford's part number works out as 74 (year introduced) - BB (car model) - 5484 (part number) - AA (modification history).

Thanks for the info!

Yep, original is 69mm long, the one I've been supplied is 75mm.
The bore in the sleeve is the same 12mm, and the rubber at 30mm is also the same.

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't my only car!

If it's that similar I think at a push I'd be lopping 3mm off each end of the tube... whistle

That has crossed my mind, but only 1mm of metal tube sticks out of each end, so I think I'd make a mess of the bush.

It might not be a very flattering photo then, but the top one is new.
I assure you that there is nothing wrong with it.

Anyway, the supplier has called me and it's all sorted out. That was most unexpected and really is good service, many thanks!

Cheers guys!

Granted, it would be entertaining trying to hold the thing in a lathe chuck... biggrin
