The Mazda standard steering wheel failed the MOT due to de-lamination, so I picked up a nice Mountney leather wheel and a boss that according to the supplier "...is definitely for a MK2..." - but it isn't! It has a brass ring on the back which I'm guessing made contact with a spring terminal for the horn supply (for an earlier model?) - my supply is via a cable and snap apart connector.

I'm now completely OK with removing/fitting everything (including resistor and the indicator cancelling mechanism), but the problem is that although I have seen loads of people with after market steering wheels fitted to MK2's - I just cannot find a boss - so how have they done it? I even called Mountney and as soon as I mentioned it was for road-going use without the airbag (fully OK'd by my insurance company), they declined to even give me the part number.

I've tried several main MX5 specialist suppliers, but to no avail - the general consensus seems to be that there isn't an adapter boss for a MK2 - but there has to be a way as I've see other steering wheels fitted. Can anyone throw any light on this before I throw in the towel and spend megabucks on a Mazda wheel?

'interesting - I called them this morning and they said they didn't have anything!

Many thanks for the superfast feedback - I think I'll go for this and see if it does the trick.

I had already found the photo instructions - although not 100% every tiny detail was covered they were pretty close and certainly good enough to get everything off OK (and back on again!) - I even got the self-cancelling mechanism to work for the first time since I bought the car.

Brilliant stuff - 'should have come to PH in the first place - have a great weekend.
