Felters junior needs a watch. Of course if it was down to me then a Seiko monster would be Fed Ex'ing it's way right now. But I suspect that may not be the best solution.

So what did you get your kids for their first timepiece?

My first was a basic Sekonda. Then I had one of these:

Maybe a G-Shock?

The terrorist's choice of course - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Nice and small, lots of functions, cheap, accurate, and pretty hardy to knocks and such.

lol biggrin

But yes, one of them! Perhaps a Casio remote control watch, if they still sell them? Lots of fun if his class is watching a video!

Seiko 5 of some kind?

Unless he's a monster avoid a mans watch - no matter how much you want to buy it for him!

It wont fit and will look daft.

Casio do some smaller watches, outside the G range that are ok for kids.

Something cheap and cheerful?

At that age I went through so many watches, from smashed facia's to broken straps etc.
I also used to take everything apart as a kid.

Until I was 17 and had an original G Shock i couldn't keep a watch for more than a couple of months.

certainly the F-91W would be the perfect size for a 10 year old, Swatch would also be a consideration.

Seiko 5 military, automatic, day/date, great dial layout for younger readers and display back. My two boys (8 and 10) have had them for 18 months without probs.

+1 for a Seiko 5. Rugged yet still an auto and hopefully will train them into looking after something a little special ( to them ). I.e. scratches are fine but losing it is not so you know they can be trusted with nice things occaisionally. I don't think they will get that special attachment to a £10 Casio.

When I was 6, I had a Timex manual wind; at about 9, an Avia automatic on a mesh bracelet (very '70s), at about 13, I got a Seiko 5. My mother still uses the Timex; the Avia and Seiko 5 still work. None of them have been serviced, either. thumbup

Anyway, I vote Seiko 5.

The best watch you can give a 10 year old is the one that HE wants, and probably not the one you want to give him...

Maybe at 18 or 21 you can get him a nice piece but now get him the watch of his choice (subject to budget) and enjoy a day in town going round with him so he can choose the one that he wants.

I'd agree with this, buy him a cheap watch (or two) that he can trash, once he is 18/21 then get him something nice.

???? Why will a 10 year old get an attachment to a Seiko and not a casio? 10 year olds dont care about cost or automatic....they are 10!

In my early teens I had a Timex with a clicking rotating bezel. I used to twiddle with it in class.

I think some sort of skeleton watch would be nice and something interesting that he can show his chums. Would he remember to wind it up though?!
