now i mean almost rpg type games. starts off your in your house like just now watching the news. word of a zombie outbreak occuring near you hits the screen. your in a massive world full of other like minded indivduals. you can choose to work together. try to save your friends fortify your house or loot steal and pillage your way through. guns are rare ie the odd farm may have a shotgun but its unlikely to have much ammo left etc. you have to mannage your supplies and there could be health bars such as "moral" "thirst" "hunger" "wellbeing" etc so you cant just camp for the whole time it forces you to go outside and take risks. every new game generates a new map so people dont get to know the best spots as they are always changing etc. zombies could be played by humans runners would make it too hard and walkers probably too easy. zombies would be slightly faster than you based on your health stats etc. im sure theres more to be had but to me looks like a missed opertunity for a game.

Left 4 dead 2 - co-op as survivors, can play as zombies against other human players.

This is the sort of thing I've been waiting for for ages! why nobody can come up with a relaistic zombie game where your main purpose it just to survive is beyond me!

Still I havent heard of Dead Island so might have to look that one up smile

As above, that is pretty much dead island isn't it? (With mainly hand held weapons only too!).

What about Dead Rising 1 & 2?

They don't exactly hit all the points you mention, but it's more inline with what your talking about.

I'll be watching that Dead Island with great interest.

Last Stand 2? Last Stand 3? The latter looks interesting as you have to collect supplies etc.

Probably work well as a "sandbox" (perhaps a quarantined city) game...

The farmhouse level of Zombie Panic (free on steam) works quite well but a longer suvival/escape game co-op with battlefield 2 number of players in a L4D directed zombies, city sandbox... scratchchin

Fallout 3 is probably the closest thing on the market at the moment. Check out the Dead Island trailer on Youtube, it's a great little film.

I have to say, the trailer for that that was on XBOX LIVE recently was really good. I am looking forward to this game!

Was playing this last night - Resident Evil 5? Surely the Resident Evil games could count? They've been around for donkeys...

5 is poor IMHO. 4 on the other hand is great!

RE 5 is in no way a zombie game, it is nothing more than a now all too familiar generic action shooter for teenagers and sufferers of attention deficit disorders - no atmosphere, no plot, not in the least bit scary – and ultimately a boring by-the-numbers 3rd person shooter.

IMOHO, of course….

Was only any good because of the co-op (though this was flakey at best - repeated drop outs etc. )
Too many monsters not enough zombies..... If only I could code....

I agree, it's not a good game, terrible plot and the control system is awful.

There was a sneak peak I saw of the new resi evil game not sure if it was real or not. It showed them going back to fixed camera views like the originals looked alot like a darker resi 1.
