Car Road Tax - quick question

Only just realised my tax runs out the end of this month. Right in the middle of the bank holidays. Bloady great! Not!
Didnt get a reminder for some reason. Allthough its more likely some busy body around the house has put it "somewhere safe". With the hours im working there's no way i'll get to DVLA to tax it. It's gonna have to be done online. However if I do it online I wont get the new disk untill next wekk after all the bank holidays etc.

My question is if I tax it online and print out the confirmation slip and keep it in the car. Is it still legal for me to drive the car after the current disk expires?

If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc.

I did that, bought my tax online then rode around for a few days without the disc until it arrived. I just figured that your vehicle is updated immediately on the DVLA database as being taxed and therefore it doesn't matter for the few days until the disc actually arrives. I could be wrong though.....

Technically illagal as you are not showing a valid tax disk but I think you would be very unlucky to get 'done' for it if you have your print out to hand (especially in the first half of the month anyway). You will show up as being up to date on the police computer thing (what ever they are called???).

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong

It should do. Although, if you order it today, it may arrive on Saturday. Failing that it would be with you Tuesday or Wednesday.
