That's what we call axle articulation...Everybody's favourite off-road-truck-that-sounds-like-a-type-of-cat (that'd be the Mercedes Unimog, then) is turning 60 this year.
Going above and beyond for press shotThe party continues on 5th June at the museum, with vehicle demos, presentations and even book sigings by 'famous' authors of tomes on the Unimog (the mind truly boggles).

Utilitarian icon to celebrates 60 years this summer
That's what we call axle articulation...
To mark such a milestone, Mercedes is planning to host a celebratory anniversary party on 4th June. It will take place at the Wörth plant in Germany where the Unimog is built and fans, club members, owners of classic vehicles, and drivers and owners of current models are all invited.
A rally from the original factory in Gaggenau to the current factory, via the Unimog Museum (yes, there is one of those) will also take place.

Meet "Petal" my 1975 vintage ex military 404S parked next to my landrover
The 404S is the most common model in terms of numbers produced and it quite popular with the modifiers. Mine has been slightly modded with larger wheels, excess bits and a rollcage. Rollcages are something that can cause hassle if not fitted correctly due to the oddball suspension that Unimogs have. The whole chassis is designed to flex so anything bolted to the chassis like the back body, cab, or a cage must be designed to allow the chassis to flex other things break

Great bit of kit. I went up a 2m high vertical rock wall on thier Gagganau test track (Sauberg - pig mountain) in one. It is amazing what wont stop it!!
In Germany they are all over the place hiding under various bits of specialist kit. There is even an attachment for cleaning signposts, I kid you not.
My favorite is an arm with 5 circular saw blades for hedge cutting. Looks more James Bond than Farmer Palmer.
