I need to hire a vehicle to take 6 people (3 adults) plus 4 suitcases. Would all this fit in a Galaxy or Sharan (cough)?

Last year I hired a Ford Transit which was bigger/more basic than I needed.

Should do, our Galaxy (new shape) takes six plus luggage, four cases may be a push.

Yes but you'll need to fold up one of the rearmost seats. You'll probably find a couple of luggage straps handy to stop the cases falling onto the passenger in the other rearmost seat.

If the latest Galaxy is as good (cough) as the early ones - nooooo chance. We had one of the seven-seat originals, 2/3/2 seating. The last row of seats couldnt take adults at all! ... and with those in place a briefcase would fit behind the last row against the tailgate providing it was kept below the seat-back level. Stick with the transit. I suppose you could always take 4 suitcases along to your local ford dealer and embarrass the salesman - the chances of your local hire co having one on the forecourt is slim to nil!

Yes, just about, assuming you mean the new Sharan and Galaxy with fold-flat seats and the suitcases are not too enormous. If old model Sharan you would have to persuade the hire company to store one of the seats for you. The new model Sharan is quite new so may not be many on hire fleets yet.

Personally, I would ditch one of the suitcases and take a couple of soft bags instead that can be stuffed behind the rearmost seat.

I had 5 to the airport plus driver a couple of years ago, each person had 1 big & 1 little suitcase & we only just fitted in a Merc Vito minibus thing. In the US we had a Dodge Caravan (Chrysler Grand Explorer equiv) & it was tightish but just fitted.

Slide all the seats forward if you're looking for the boot.

May be better off rattling around in a minibus though for similar money.

It's a hire firm in Portugal and like most hire firms it will be a gamble as to what they actually have and age.

It seems too borderline, I think I'll go for the Transit again.

Thanks chaps.

If its just to drive from the airport to the hotel/villa and back then take the gamble.

With the seats pushed forward you can easily fit a decent sized suitcase behind the 3rd row in our (older) Alhambra and the other 3 can go in the space vacated by the 7th seat.

That way you wil be driving an MPV for the duration of the holiday instead of a min bus!
