Hammerite brush cleaner vs cellulose thinners
Discussion
I've been doing some jobs around the garden to get it tidy for the summer, assuming we've not just had it
Painted the railings on the veranda with dark green Hammerite and then did the old metal table and chairs.
Half way through I ran out of cellulose thinners so nipped out to get some Hammerite thinners for my brushes. After gulping at the price - about ten quid for 500cc I decided I'd get the real stuff rather go next door to Halfords for common or garden cellulose thinners.
Now I wish I had done, the Hammerite stuff seems to be nowhere near as powerful as cellulose thinners and even after washing the brush in the stuff for a while and washing it in detergent it's still sticky. I never had that with straight forward cellulose thinners. That'll teach me - harrumph

Comparing the contents on the two tins it seems the Hammerite stuff is only about 50% the same make up as cellulose thinners but it's got other stuff in it too, probably heath and safety - "be kind to skin". And... it's not just for the brushes it's to get the stuff off my hands and I don't really want to bin them
