Well following on from my other post's, ordered a new Camera, bit the Bullet, please tell me its a good one, Also getting a Lens for it, gets delivered Wednesday Im a total noob to photography, but been very interested in it for some years, will be visiting and searching this section a lot.

I'm a Canon man myself so quite obviously I will say it's a good choice.

The main thing is, get out and take photographs. Learn to use the camera properly instead of just relying on it to get the shots you want.

ill be one of these which you see that takes a camera every where you go you never know what you might see

Normally accompanied by a tutting wife and child sick of me following things like bee-flys around in the undergrowth!

Indeed, I'm a Canon man too (and now Mamiya!).

As already said get out and take loads of photos, you can't really break the camera by accident so go for it, shoot everything, try all the settings, see what works for you.

WOW thanks for all the replies, ive been on the forum a long time now and even though just made my purchase' ive always visited this section and especially browsed the random photo's thread, awesome pics in there guys, yeah ill be snap happy, quite like slow shutter effect photos, im quite a lover of fish eye too which im going to have a look into

going to have to get one tomorow now, only have Micro SD's

may i suggest 7 day shop , You may have to wait a few days but you wont find cards much cheaper!

Most Sainsburys, Tesco etc stock SD cards if you want to be up and running tonight.

Congrats, took the slr plunge in October, love it.

Get away from auto from the off, the learning curve is steep but fun.

Be prepared to want additions to the kit very quickly, the list never seems to end!

was going to ask this question, im knew to this world, read half the manual, seems quite simple settings wise its just getting used to which ones to pic for the picture taken

Tv and Av modes are well worth using, your still relying on the metering but your picking the key settings yourself.

Also switch it from selecting all focus points to one.

I'll be honest, haven't gone much near full manual mode yet.

Alternate between A (aperture), S (shutter) and the landscape preset. I shoot Nikon so the label will be different but the result the same.

Only time I have opened the manual was to figure out the remote, turns out I was aiming it in the wrong place. Otherwise google the question you need answering and there are 1001 guides.

Alternatively post right here, great advice from effin great photographers, with lots of patience

I read that as 'manual mode' meaning you get the manual out
