V8s silencer without having to screw through exhaust

Anybody reccomend a silencer? Done a search but they all look like you have to drill through exhaust to fit.Also does anybody know roughly how loud a standard V8s is and how much a silencer is likely to take off.Anybody in mids with decibel meter?Hoping to get a trackday in soon but dont want to book untill this is sorted. Thanks

I've got a couple of sets of inserts and a pair of external cans, and none of them require any drilling - they are all fitted with exhaust clamps.
You can buy sound meters at various electronic shops, they're often used for measuring loudspeaker output so look for electronic/hi-fi type shops. I have one digital and one analogue, both from Maplins, neither very expensive. Be aware that there is a huge amount of variation in the way exhaust noise levels are measured and if you're hoping to get an accurate reading that agrees with a scrutineer at at specific event, it will need to be done exactly right (and will still not be something you can rely on to get a precisely accurate answer).

If you are in the midlands and a member of the TVRCC then I am sure either they, or the trackday organiser Sean Lacey, would be prepared to lend you one, I've borrowed them from them before for SCH. Contact numbers are in Sprint.As for standard - there is no such thing, but be rest assured my V6 is a quiet one and still achieves 93dB which is close to the mark for some tracks, at the last SCH some were off the scale at 120dB, it also depends on the exact testing requirements for each track (i.e. how many revs they need you to hold steady at, whether they measure whilst on circuit as well etc)
They vary a lot. Mine was the quietest at an earlier SCH at 98 (but I don't think all metres are calibrated the same so this may not mean much).
Then somehow all the packing fell out of the system so it is empty and significantly louder. That said, it is not as loud by some margin as Barkychocs.
Mine isn't helped by having the wrong manifold on either, it has the large cat type manifold which it should not have, that may quieten it a bit.
