Old Stig - The worst car I'd ever driven is a TVR!

This is an article from an Australian newspaper today. He thinks the Sagaris is the worst car he has ever driven and all TVR are rubbish.

Stig 'One brand of car proved so vociferous in its badness that it made me swear out loud and punch the steering wheel whenever I drove it.'

Unreliable,craft glue,electrics don't work blah blah blah. However on his say so I'll put mine up for sale before it breaks down or kills me. In fact I wouldn't want to sell a car so poor to anyone I'll just take it straight to the scrappy down the road.

Sounds like a rather bitter man - having failed at a racing & TV career, trying to be controversial in order to generate some work for himself... Instead by simply repeating lazy, unfounded tat comments he just makes himself look a bit pathetic...

He was only there because of the rivalry between 5th gear and top gear. He went on the show to be proven that top gears best driver could be trounced by Tiff and Plato.

When I bought my Chimaera all he said was that its a bit scary at speed but we all know that, he doesn't hate all TVR's
Also it was reported that his all time favorite car was the speed 12

He's a very, very experienced driver and *massively* more experienced, and more entitled to comment, than anyone on PH.

He's been rewarded well for having, by most people's standards, a fantastic life.

Even if what the papers report is "true".
Who really cares what this man or any other non TVR owner person thinks.

Top Gear is a knob of a show anyway.
They review cars that almost no one can afford then drive them sideways around an old airfield,
talking about irrelevant crap.
I have just come back from the Guadix race circuit in Spain and I was told one to one, by a REAL racing driver about the rubbish ability of Clarkson and his crews driving.

The reality is that almost non of us here on PH are so rich that we can afford to buy any car which we choose.
All the TVR cars are affordable, well the Sagaris, just. But the point is arn't they all just fantastic for what you pay?
They look like real sports/racing cars. They can all be made to handle as sharp as a pin, even the Tuscan!

They are all blisteringly fast. They do not fall apart.............. for Gods sake. The Speed Six is now such a well sorted engine and the handling issues of the cars have been fully sorted out if you care to do it.

I don't know about you other PH members but I am so weary of tales of woe attached to TVR cars.
Really think hard about selling your TVR............. what on earth would you replace it with, like for like, money for money?

I for one am very happy with my little project Tuscan and if I had to sell it that would be a very sad day for me indeed. I do not care that it will not lap some old airfield as fast as a £100,000 + car. My Tuscan gets as much admiration as cars costing 4 times its value. And................I enjoy driving it, looking at it and refining it.

Let these TV people who earn so much of our money that they have lost touch with reality go and live in their bubbles and leave us alone.

Sorry but I agree somewhat with what he says, A TVR has always been a little unpolished out of the box, you have to spend some time and money to get it to perform well, there are very few owners who haven't "Upgraded" their car in some form or another to iron out the "that'll do" attitude. It was getting better until they closed. The Tuscan II was in my opinion the best out of the box car they produced. The Tuscan I is shown to be the worst, just look how many are Cat C/D. As for the Sagaris I can't comment due to not driving one in anger. Mine is no exception, it was no-where near a standard I would have expected for a 40K new car and mine was a "Show car". I have spent a small fortune getting it to a safe high speed handling car that it should have been from the 1st mile.

I have always admired the stance TVR have had in the car marked, It's a niche market for the open minded who don't conform to the usual rules and regulations. I knew when I bought mine it wasn't going to be an easy ownership. A TVR is a labour of love, I feel very fortunate to own one as I know many who are still waiting for the time they can. His comments are just that "Comments" A TVR is obviously not his niche as he drives an Audi A5

A TVR is deffinately not the best car I have driven but also far from being the worst. It's how it makes you feel that is the hidden treasure of my TVR

I'm sure that Ben (and many others) could drive rings around me in exactly the same way that the smug mockney Jamie and that scarfaced psycho can make a much better dinner than I can...

I love my Chimaera, don't get me wrong (hell, if I didn't then I'd never let it get away with all the stuff that I do forgive it for). TVRs in general are agricultural at best - even the later ones - but we love them for what they are, loud and lairy!

I can *COMPLETELY* understand why anyone who is used to Ferraris and Porsches would truly hate Tivs in general and that's fine - I don't feel that everyone has to love mine. My Godson smiles so much when he hears it that I'd be tempted just to buy one just to see him grin (he's terrified of it though and won't let me take him for a ride yet) and I don't give a rats scrotum what anyone else thinks.

It's just a car guys and like any other car people have their own thoughts and opinions on what they like ...

Same here - I used a full 250ml tin of Evostick on the carpet inside the boot lid only last week (that fecker isn't going anywhere now) and oddly I don't seem to mind filling up with fuel so much since then.

Its my TVR and it puts a smile on my face for my very own reasons.. if it doesn't do on other peoples faces, so what.

So he hates the design? -- I truly love the non-mainstream looks
He thinks it stinks? -- The GRP smell makes me happy
Too much glue? -- Not seen other marques using a stapler
Unreliable? -- The weekend tinkering is part of the fun

Albeit he rates the Sag so bad, he admits however that its f*****g fast

Not a fact at all, just an opinion oft repeated following attention grabbing comments from things such as Top Gear. These aim towards some controvesy as it makes for more interesting viewing.

I've had 8 and not one has ever smelt of glue, it's a rather stupid comment.

Jesus, just because the guy says he doesn't like TVRs he gets a load of personal abuse thrown at him. If he had happened to say that, for example, a Sagaris was actually one of his TOP 5 cars, would he still be "bitter / a failure / washed up / a has-been / he should fk off"?

If he was really only out for publicity wouldn't he have chosen to criticise a more controversial car? "Bugati Veyron, worst car I ever drove!"

You guys like your TVRs, he doesn't, don't take it personally, you remind me of the Morris Marina Owners Club!
