Hi guys I have a slight problem with what appears to be the abs on my car, when braking i only have to be slightly pushing on the brake pedal and i can hear and feel the abs cutting in and out, this seems to be only happening when the car is coming to near enough a standstil then the abs goes off altogether when the car is stopped, i have just renewed quite a bit on the rear end including drive shafts, i also renewed a rear abs sensor as i damaged the old one whilst working on the car, could my abs need resetting or something or would it be some other fault?

Hello there, this sounds like a classic abs sensor symptom. I'd check that the abs sensor you fitted is seated fully and that the toothed rotor on the shaft isn't damaged (have been caught out before myself) If all ok then you will need to break out the multimeter (unless you know someone who has the kit to read abs codes) disconnect & measure the resistance AND ac voltage (spin the wheels) on the remaining sensors. You should get a few volts depending on how fast you can spin the wheels and approx 14 - 16 k ohms (or there about - compare with the new sensor...memory a bit dulled, i've had a drink!) Alternatively if you live in suffolk you could try...

I know someone who works there!

Did you have to drill/force the old sensor out? If so I know what you've done wink

I damaged the old sensor when i was pressing a new wheel bearing in, so no drilling involved, but did have to force it out

I think you'll find you probably damaged the ring on the back of the bearing at the same time. Sensor out and gently rotate the wheel to see if you can feel if all of the teeth are still intact.

Just as a side note, did you use a genuine BMW sensor, i have had issues with aftermarket ones before, all of the indy garages i use will not touch non genuine sensors.
