I did about 400 miles yesterday (London and back) in my mk1 1.8 with the roof down.

I wasn't expecting wonderful mpg.

I've just done some maths...

38mpg!!!!

Winner!

Wow... were you driving at 50mph all day?

I don't think I've ever seen over 32...

Good feeling isn't it (in a slightly wrong way). On a boring mostly flat/straight 60-65mph cruise the other day I got 46mpg from mine!

70mph for 150 miles, except the odd increase for overtaking...

It was when the wedding was on so the road was v quiet.

My '91 Roadster got 37mpg driving to Devon last weekend, and 38mpg coming back and that was fully loaded up with camping gear and a passenger, so I'm sure it could be improved. In fact, on the way home I'd done 170 miles but my guage was at halfway. I was absolutely convinced the needle was stuck so I kept banging the dash to fix it. biggrin

I got almost 290 miles out of that tank before I filled up again, which brimmed at a touch over 34 litres.

I had a fuel leak recently (note: check for weeping from the drain plug of your fuel tank - then fix it asap) so got into the habit of taking it easy and short-shifting to limit the problem, but I wasn't making a huge effort to drive efficiently.

To put it into perspective I get around 31-33mpg on my commute which certainly isn't a fuel efficient journey as it involves lots of crawling and regular high revs (the latter the antidote to the former biggrin ).

Some people say "stomp and steer" is how you use ABS... some people it's how they treat the throttle wink
