530d GT 10/60 reg and some with 5 year service packs are available form main dealers with low mileage at 17k below list.
I'm tempted cause apparantely the ride and engine are superb but lookswise I'm not so sure- especially from the back.
Will this car continue to depreciate heavily?
What's the true combined mpg on something like this?
Worth trading a RRS diesel for something like this? Will do approx 13k per annum.

Thanks for replies

Depends what you call list.....first thing I would do is forget the cost of any options when looking at depreciation. It's ridiculously easy to load these cars with £10k plus of extras which will be worth bugger all come trade three years down the line in so I don't think you should factor that in now as getting a discount to list unless they are optional spec that you really would have ordered.

The base price of these cars is £43k ? The best case scenario is that they will be worth 50% of that in three years time (50% is the benchmark for cars that are "good" depreciators. My guess is if you keep one of these for three years it'll be worth £17k or £18k as a trade in.....a really high spec car might be worth £1 or £2k more. The good news is they aren't selling many so that will help residuals...the bad news is that they aren't very popular so you might find it very hard to sell it!

They are supposed to be very capable cars.....but as you say the looks are an issue.

I strangely like them, they look in black and the interior is superb with the panoramic roof, they would make a fantastic alternative to an SUV, in a couple of years when they drop to under 15k they will be a proper bargain

In answer to your question; I think they will continue to depreciate very heavily indeed. They are not a big seller, they are being discounted to sell and first year depreciation is heavy. For me this indicates a weak demand (obvious I know) and low desirability. They will fall and fall hard at that.

I guess it would be fine if you were going keep it for many years.

The danger with buying one is that it could be virtually unsellable if you wanted to get shut of it in 2 or 3 years time.

They are a 730d with a boot. Big as a 7, drive like a 7 and depreciate like a 7.

Great cars.

Should get 40ish mpg with mixed driving.

have you seen the boot size on a 7 series!? hardly what you'd call small! they are not 7 series with a boot, they're 5 series with a boot smile the inside of the car is a 5er, not a 7er smile

Do you think? They're bigger in the rear than an F10 5-series and longer both externally and in wheelbase. And pricier than the 5 on a like for like basis.

I'd still have either an F10 Touring or F01 over a 5GT, whatever it is.

The 7/5GT/5 and 6 all share the same platform and engines, the 5GT and the 7 have very similiar dashboard architecture, quite different to the 5 (F10/F11) and 6 which get their own.

I'd argue the 5GT's is better than the 7 series interior.

The 5GT is a stunning car, and really is a 7 series with a hatch but who could live with the looks?

(edit to say) that's a 7 a 5GT and a 5 (F10) and they all look the bloody same! biggrin

as said, i've been in a 5GT and an F01 (the 7er only at the dealers hehe) and the 7er did seem a little more roomy in the back than the GT. have yet to go in an F10 though. and totally agree, i'd take an F10 or an F01 over the 5GT any day. whilst they may be very comfortable (the one i went in had to have been one of the most comfortable cars i've ever been in) and capable, it's not a car i could ever fall in love with.

my favourite 5 series has got to be the face lifted E39. sublime looking thing that biggrin

Ross.

Very true. I just think that when these things hit £20k in a couple of years people who normally couldn't afford a BMW as a family car may look at them and think "sod the looks".

If I owned Addsion Lee I'd be hoovering these things up in a year or so as a high end mini cab.

I have only briefly looked at an F01 7 - is it really not as good? Spent quite a while (er... about an hour!) in a 5GT when they were launched, admiring the lovely interior. Then I borrowed an F10 5 for a week (similarly high spec) and was equally taken by the inside.

When the F10 5-series has depreciated a bit, I shall very much enjoy finding a nice highly specced Touring. I don't think I'll be compromising by getting a 5GT, though I am sure it's bound to reach my budget first.

I believe its all down to being over priced new.

I think BMW were being a bit greedy trying to price it as a 7/X5 alternative. I think what they should have done is priced it as a 5 Series Estate/X3 alternative.

Well out of the 3 pics I posted I think the best is the 5GT, the bottom one is my F10 with about 12k's worth of extras and yes that's a fine place to sit (esp with nappa and comfort seats) But I still prefer the GT on the inside but the 7 or 5 on the outside.

The 7's dashboard looks a upright/little slab sided to me.

Someone I know got one of these in white last year, the first time I saw it I thought you must have been drunk when you parted with your your money for this hideous thing.
On a plus side the interior is very spacious if you are after a big cruiser with plenty of space for the kids at the back.
Every time I see one of these which thankfully is not often I always say this is the worst looking car BMW have made.

Remember the rear seats can slide back 4" on the 5GT. In standard mode there is the same rear legroom as an F10 5 series and once slid back there is slightly more room than a standard wheelbase 7 series.

I think these are very, very colour and spec dependent cars. Seen a couple now that actually looked pretty good, there is a black one near me with anthracite coloured wheels and no chrome on it and that actually looks really, really nice.

Will try and get a picture, but looks similar to this but the wheels are a bit more subtle....
