I seem to remember seeing somewhere that the later Chimeras had different seals at the top of the windows where they meet the targa pannel which give a better seal. Anybody know if this is so and can they be fitted to a 93 car?

Cheers

Yes, they do. I fitted them to my '95 Chimaera so they should fit a '93 model. They don't make much difference to the seal as I found out the hard way (i.e. by trying them) - they have a bit more of a 'lip' to stop water getting in. I still get a bit of wind noise at 120+ though

Any idea when they were introduced?

My seals were getting a bit tatty and as my window adjustment screw has rusted and sheared off (!!) I couldn't adjust the glass to compensate for the wind noise. Therefore I 'padded out' the existing seal in the short term. I actually used the reinforced rubber tube from an old Waxoyl kit, which turned out to be an absolutely perfect fit. You'll need lots of lubricant (!) to slide it down inside the tube of the seal (I used Halfords rubber and nylon spray - not an oil based lube, as this is rubber) and pushed it all the way inside.

Result. Much stiffer seal for the door to close against, forcing the lip out perfectly. Provided an extra millimeter or two to close out that wind noise.

After '96 is all I know. You'll need to look at a few cars on a forecourt to work out the exact changeover. If you're trying to work out if you already have the newer type then it's easy - the early ones were naff and the later ones are crap

What and where is this window adjustment screw?

My drivers side window could do with adjusting.

Cheers. I will have a go at that tonight.

Great Web site. It will be good to see the Hints and tips section develop.

I was wondering how to take the dash off!!

Thanks for the info everyone.

I guess it might be the window height that needs adjusting as the seals are in good condition. John at Sports and Specialist, where I bought the car, is going to adjust it, he has ordered some more of the clips that hold the window in apparently as they sometimes drop off and you end up with the window in the bottom of the door!

While we're talking about windows and seals, does anyone have any suggestions for this problem. On the passenger side of my Chim, there's a gap of a few millimeters between the top of the window and the rubber seal of the roof panel, not all the way along, just the last inch or so (on the right hand side as you look in).

So what's the best way to ensure the window meets the roof correctly, and stop water and wind noise? Please also consider I am not in any way mechanically or practically minded...soz!

Pepsi, that's where the window adjuster in the door comes in to the equation. Please don't ask me how to do it as I don't know!

Oh I see...hmmmm....probably could take it to my local (non-TVR) garage, I'm sure they'd be able to sort it, can't be too difficult, I'm sure....

It's dead easy to fix - wind the window down, halfway along the door top on the inside of where the window is - there is a screw head, you will be able to find it by using a screw driver. It's simply a matter of turning the screw oneway to raise and the other way to lower........

I suggets that you get a copy of the TVR Chimaera/Griffith Bible as everything you need to know is in there and more you won't have thought of....

Piccy on my website (www.motion-lotion.co.uk). This isn't a plug - I haven't added anything to the site in months!

Quite often, my targa panel seems to sit quite high when I refit it. This causes a 5mm or so gap between top of window and seal on both sides of the car. I have found a few whacks (oh err missus)with the heel of my hand on the panel on each side does the trick and nestles the panel to a nice cosy fit.

Don't whack it! That way you increase the risk of cracking the windscreen too. I used to do that and within a year had two cracked windscreens to show for it. Stopped hitting the roof to seat it and voila -- no more broken windscreens.

Instead, ease the roof in, wiggle it up and down and try to centre it on the peg.

Bringing this thread back to life again, sorry...

Tested my roof for water-resistance with a watering can yesterday, and these sides seals were so knackered they let enough water in to set the alarm off!!! Pouring down the insides of the windows!

I'm re-proofing the roof anyway to be on the safe side, but I need to know where I can buy replacement seals - it's a '96 car, but if there are newer and less-naff seals out there, which model year do I want them for and what are they likely to cost me?

Cheers

www.woolies-trim.co.uk - section 'Sponge' part SRS24. £2.24 per metre

Check to see if its the same profile you have now. It fits my 99 Griff perfectly. I originally ordered it from David Gerald but it was too small
