VW Scirocco 2.0 TSI or BMW 320i?

Hi guys need some advice... im looking for my next car to buy and after weeks of searching i have broken my choices down to two cars the VW Scirocco 2.0TSI or the BMW 320 or 325i. Would like to know your thoughts on both cars and which one you would personally prefer to own.

Have a TT with same engine done about 10k miles in it and used to have a 318d and covered 70k in 2 years.

Engine is fab and economical but I preferred driving my 3-er hard - firget the engine it was about the balance, feel, ride, poise, changing direction was all better in the 3-er

My TT has 18" 245 wide low profile tyres and suffers way more understeer than my diesel (heavier engine in the front) 318d with 225 SE spec tall run flat tyres - it's all about the chassis.

So my point is if the 6 cylinder is good (which everyone says it is but I've never driven one) then it would be the 3 series hands down

Hmmm true the ride would be better in the beamer, but wat about speed and torque wise? the 320i has 170bhp where as the Scirocco has 210bhp and insane torque..... in order to get some power out of the beamer i would have to go for the 325 ?????

Maybe should have been clearer - the VAG engine is sublime - really strong feeling all the way through the rev range - felt faster than a mates (although older) 330i because of the torque.

I like the looks of the vw, but the TT more and the BMW is getting old now so you've got a tricky decision!

Do you live in a city and only sometimes get to play on country roads? Or do you drive mostly on A-B roads and sometimes pop into town?

City: VW (dsg)
Countryside: BMW (lightly used 330i)

Hmm i live kinda of in the countryside, i live in london but on the border where theres alot of open roads to it enjoy some speeding , looking at the mpg of both car seems like the 330 has abt the same mpg as the 2.0 TSI? is this true or just silly data on the net?

im buying them very slightly used no more then 15k on either one....

What you mean is you get close to the speed limits but never exceed them? right?

It's been said on here that the 325 doesn't offer a real difference in mpg but a lot less power than a 330. I would take an older/higher mileage BMW in your position - certainly the BMW wore the miles better than the TT. 50k on the TT and the interior is starting to have the odd creak and a slight rattle from the engine. The bm was as tight as a drum at 70k.

Oh right, thing is my issue is that i dont want to get a car more than 3 years old...i figured if im going to spill a lump of money on a nice car no point being too old and been driven alot...

Another way to look at is if you're going to spill a lump of money, may as well look for an older car that's not going to needlessly depreciate all your hard earned away into thin air.
