Need the MOT reference number but don't have the MOT Cert...

Long story short, my missus is driving my sisters car whilst she is out of the country.

The Tax ran out yesterday so needs retaxing. Unfortunatly my sister has misplaced the MOT certificate although we know it has MOT. We want to tax it online (as the Post Office wont do it without a paper certificate) but don't have the certificate to take the MOT Reference number from.

Is there anywhere online we can get the reference number from? I know you can check the MOT status for a car online but does this give you the reference number too?

If not, is there any way we can tax the car without re-MOTing the car?

go back to where MOT was issued and ask for the number ?

Don't know where it was MOTed as we don't have the MOT certificate. Plus, it was MOTed last by the previous owner so it could have been done anywhere.

Has she got the V5c? I think you can use the online MOT checker with the reference number. That will at least tell you where it was issued etc. Then you could call them. It may actually give you the doc code you need.

Infact, if you tax it online, you don't need it - they look it up for you.

Do you need the MOT ref number to tax it online? The renewal reminder has a number which is required, failing that the system asks for another number from the V5. But the MOT details are stored electronically and crossed referenced by the DVLA site automatically. Aren't they?

You can look up a cars MOT history online with the VIN number, on the VOSA site. This will tell you the last MOT number

Definately used to have to have the MOT ref number to tax online... Was a few years ago I last did it though.

Not required for online retaxing,all you need is either the reminder or the reg doc.If you do not have the reminder with its reference number then you just need a number off the reg doc,insurance and m.o.t status are checked online.

What he said, you don't need the MOT ref. to buy VED on-line, just the reminder or V5.
