Right then,
After close on a year with my Jaguar Sovereign, a car that's been an absolute pleasure to live with during that time, I'm going to be looking to sell after I've put her through an MOT next month.
The reasons for selling are obviously fuel, I do far too many miles to be paying >135ppl in a car that averages 20mpg, and also I fancy doing some more track days so I'm looking at warm hatches.
Basically, are these old Protons any good? I've admired them from a distance for a long time but never so much as seen one in the metal. I think I recall good reviews from when they were new but does anyone have experience or knowledge of their reliability and comfort for long distance travelling too?
I appreciate that it's not that quick by modern standards, and that it'll never be as comfortable as my old Jag, but I'm happy to compromise.

They are a fun, nippy motor, good seats and a respectable 130bhp lump. Off the radar of an awful lot of people but they are fairly reliable being based on the mitsibushi colt. AFAIK some people have fitted early EVO lumps into them without a huge amount of hassle, which would make for quite a sleeper.
Made in limited numbers were they?
As said before, basically a colt with Lotus improved handling. Handles very very well TBH. Try and find unmolested, as off the line these cars were already very good. Went to view one a while back and was thoroughly surprised at the speed and handling of the car. In the bendies should keep up with most modern equivilants.

I only know of 1 person who has had one, she had it two weeks and in the end had to return it to the garage for a differant car (focus)
She generally wasn't very happy with the quality of it. But also, it would regularly cut out and developed numerous other faults in the short period of time she owned it. I believe it was and 04/05 model.
It may have just been a one off bad car, but having seen it I'm dont think I would want to go near one with the other warm hatches available.
