This is a very worrying trend. I wonder if other satnav manufacturers have done anything similar? How long before car manufacturers hand over data or courts order them to.

Typically bad reporting from the Daily Mail. I read this in the Times the other day (which I can't link to here) that emphasised how unhappy TomTom were when they found out that the data they had sold had been used for this purpose and that they would do all they could to put an immediate stop to it.
Also the data couldn't refer to individuals, so it was only used to show where speeding might occur.
