I'm betting my old man that my Chimaera 450 would be comfortably quicker than his bike. Anyone able to give me some evidence or stories to back me up on this one?!
Thanks,
Chris

Depending on how old the Fazer is, but if it's fairly new the chimaera would be beaten, just. 5.0 would have it though.

well i'd say depends on what you were doing and how good you were at riding it. Straight line with a good rider up to 60mph you'd dust a 5.0 otherwise forget it.

You could try Jeremy Clakson's Head to Head - he puts a R1 up against a porker 911 C4. The Porker is being driven by Jason Plato and the bike ridden by Neil McKensie (god what crap spelling !!) It's a great race the bike the bike is beaten by just over a sec it gets stuffed on the brakes and round the corners - 4 large patches of rubber v's a playing card sized one !!!

am Iright in thinking the fazer is the 600 and not the thou, if so the fazer would definateley loose out, as my mate has got one, and we put it up against my old 4.0 Chim and it only just got it to around 120mph, fazer = no aerodynamics

It's a new Fazer - the 600, but my dad hasn't riden bikes for a while so I reckon I could have him for now. Judging by the response seems it would be close though, guess the bike would have it on acceleration, missing out on top end and possibly in the first few moments away from the line.

Seen / done this before - be very careful when talking about comparing speeds with bikes. They are often a lot faster than you think and even the humble commuter ones can out run most cars on the road.

However, that said you should see something like this:

off the line - dead heat
up to about 50 - bike ahead
up to about 90 - car catching up
over 120 - car ahead

However, anything faster than a Fazer and you can expect to have the bike run away from you. For the best bet get a 5.0 or go for a 4.2 / 4.5 Cerbera for the true measure.

However, dont try anything faster - been there done that and never want a superbike - just toooooo fast.

Cheers,

Paul

A 4.0 Chimaera is about as fast as your race-rep 400s or 250 2-stroke. I had a traffic lights blast with a couple of them (actually they were racing each other, with yourstruly on their tail). Honda VFR400 (50-60hp depending on vintage) and Suzuki RG250 (about same I think). Absolutely nothing in it to 110mph, and they were totally committed. Gave up at 110, traffic ahead.

I used to ride a number of bikes, and I'd say a race-rep 600 (say cbr600) would need a sub 4.0/9.0 (to 60/100) car to beat it. So tuscan/tamora/cerb 4.5 teritory.

Your litrebike race reps are uncatchable.

Having said that, my 4.0 feels every bit as fast in realworld conditions (A and B roads, below 80mph) as both my VFR750 and Ducati 900ss (both now deceased).

We've "played" a couple of times with a ZX6R (in our 4.2 Cerbie). From 0-40 he's just quicker, anything from 40-70 we're even, but over 70, and he was slower...

The rider was one of the larger variety, so maybe not a completely fair test....

As soon as the Chim and Bike catch up other traffic, the bike will overtake and vanish over the horizon.

...and as soon as it rains, the chim roof takes 20 seconds (ish) - a full set of leathers however..

(must update profile - ex Speed Triple owner so I know!!..)

Fazer 600 with a masochistic rider well tucked in will be good for 135+ no trouble and will be tracking true even on rough roads...fancy that in yer Chim? The car's torque will find many a rider napping but if they start using the gear box it'll be a lot closer. Not really as fair comparison anyway as the Fazer is prolly the 1.4 Focus of the bike world. A sobering exercise is to consider the performance/fun per £ ratio too.

Just in the middle of selling my TL1000r, as the fun factor is much higher in a TVR, sorry it just is, and yes i can ride to the tune of 8.45 mins round the ring and have been doing so for 10 years, the thing is that once you can afford a car that is as quick as a bike, and you throw in some security (safetey) the car wins IMO.

A V8 Cerbera was the only car I've raced that beat my old CBR600 (98'). I did have a big pillion at the time though, and I thought I was gonna get pulled off the back. Nothing else ever came close, especially of the line.

A 500 Chim will have the measure of any 600, race rep or not.

Most bike 0-60 times are measured by the same pee-wee guy in the states, drag racer who weighs nowt. It would take a very good rider to get any bike down close to 3 secs 0-60, most would flip it trying. Trust me, I've had 11.23sec/123mph standing quarter [timed] on a stock GSXR750 back in 1985 - which had to be sub 4sec 0-60 - and I was using quite a bit of the drag strip to get that quick. And quite a few clutches also!

TVR grunt is much easier to exploit, the driver has much less impact on the power/weight ratio, relatively speaking, and you have two wheels to lay down the power. Wheelies are rare with a TVR!

You don't need a neck like Mike Tyson to sustain 160mph in a TVR either, so any initial advantage a superbike might gain soon evaporates! (About as quick as your licence.)

I pretty much gave up biking when I discovered TVR's, my knees weren't up to it any more and the TVR offered similar performance without the discomfort. Plus you don't have to walk around looking like a complete twat when you get where you're going!

Saw a nice Aprilia V twin yesterday though ...

R1 was on the next page so I left it out, just take GSXR figures & add a tad.
Just in case you really think you can take on a serious bike.......
