Bought my GT3 privately, prior to conducting the sale I had the local Porsche Dealer perform a 111 point check and had the owner as part of the deal purchase 2 year extended warranty. Car is amazing and there are no issues with it. It is due a service in a couple of months and having a look at the brake pads reveal yellow coloured pads in the front. I do not image these to be Porsche original equipment but surely this should have been raised during the inspection. I am concerned that this could invalidate the warranty given that no work has been done since inspection. Am I overreacting?
Thoughts please?

Yes! (to over reacting). If it passed inspection and nothing has changed then no worries.

But how would you prove it if Porsche rejected a warranty claim? Brake pads are consumable anyway - so unless they made an explicit note that there were non-approved pads fitted when they carried out the inspection (unlikely, since they'd almost certainly state the warranty could only be issued if they were replaced with Porsche pads) - how could you prove they were not added after the inspection / warranty start date?

Surely the brakes don't matter as the pads and disc are not covered by warranty anyway, surely?

I'd imagine on the 111-point check its more a check of the calipers, abs system and the system in general is working and not the consumable parts such as the disc and pads.

Does anyone actually have a list of what the 111-point check incorporates, as in what are the 111 items they check on the car?

Now there's an interesting point - if the pads / discs are not covered by the warranty, can the use of unapproved pads / discs invalidate your warranty?

Yes, they will always look for a chance not to pay out, particularly on large claims. Besides just quoting the T's & C's it's not usually too difficult to make a case for the non-genuine parts having an effect either; for example, if the braking capabilities are signifianctly improved it can put more strain on suspension bushes.

I believe someone on here got refused the right to a mechanical warranty on the basis they had paint protection on their car...I'd change the pads to OEM.

yes

The previous owner of my car had the whole car covered in PPF, it had to be taken off before the supplying OPC would issue a warranty!

I can answer this question categorically.

Bought my car from OPC Solihull with steel brakes (red calipers) - raised this issue of the car having "aftermarket" (Pagid?) yellow pads, whilst the rears are black - they ordered new pads from Porsche, using my chassis number - took old pads out and they are exactly the same as the new ones, reference numbers/colour etc - red face from me and old pads refitted (barely used) all at no cost. I saw the boxed replacements and associated paperwork - felt a complete tit !!!

Why did you feel a complete tit, you mean they felt a complete tit?

No, I did - it was me that raised the issue, a month after I bought the car. I even looked up the Pagid replacement pad codes etc to quote at them.

As it was, they had supplied the car with the correct OEM pads (which are Pagid anyway - they are also yellow, same as the ceramic ones).

They could have charged me for whipping the wheels off and taking the pads out/in, but just waved it off, no problem.

Porsche Warranty is a strange one, Im afraid when it comes to paying out it all depends on how desperate they are for work. My story:
Countless mods, turbos, larger headers, hoses, actuators, exhaust, brakes etc etc.
Front diff went bang, nervous as hell I approached my OPC who notified me that the diff had in fact gone and I could pick the car up the next day when a new one will be fitted, no charge. Fact of the matter is they would have never renewed my warranty but they were so quite (xmas period and start of so called cred crunch) they grabbed the work with both hands. Would I risk it again, not sure, if they were busy I know exactly what they would have said.

Its a tough one, but if the pads are not original Id definately get rid.

Im getting a 111pt check done on a Porsche. Is this all you receive in terms of documentation? There appears to be no mention of disc / pad % left. Well there is, but not how much is actually left.

I'd say that was thumbs up to Porsche Solihull, nice to see some good OPC press for a changesmile

To the OP, you will be fine unless something brake related goes and then it would need to be attributable to the pads. And brakes are extremely robust by design so this is very remote. Go to any of the recommended OPCs you see mentioned here and the client focused ones won't bat an eyelid (West ByFleet are exceptional in this regard). After all, they are getting paid by Porsche to do the warranty work, it's not coming out of their pocket, and in this climate they won't turn you away.
