Hi Guys,
I'm looking to get a TVR towards the end of the year (my better half has imposed some crazy diktat saying that we have to buy a new house first..) My current thinking is that a 4.2 Cerbera would make an excellent choice (second choice is a Chimaera 5.0), a friend has a 4.2 and he very kindly let me take it for a spin - all I can say is WOW!!
I'm using my time before purchase to learn as much about the Cerbera as possible, can you recommend any good on-line guides?
I've spent a few hours gleaning info from this great site and so far a fairly common theme (that I can see) is clutch problems, both bleeding and broken fingers on the pressure plate. Is this a regular occurrence? What (if any) are the other things I should watch out for?
My background is all things Rover SD1 Vitesse - I'm keeping one Twin Plenum Vitesse but the other has to go to make way for the TVR. If anyone is looking for trick SD1 bits (big brakes, adjustable ECU's, big exhausts, a Twin Plenum car etc) let me know. I also have a mint (20k miles) 4.6 block that's been pressure tested by RPI V8 if anyone's interested (probably better in the Rover V8 engined forums I know..)
So a big hello to you all, so far I've found this site to be informative and a very good laugh - keep up the good work!
Cheers guys,
Duke

Welcome Duke
This forum and www.TVR-Cerbera.com will answer just about anything you need to know.
Here are some general tips:
Check the VIN with Blackpool and make sure the uprights have been done.
These were faulty from late 1996 for a couple of years.
Check the clutch condition / known 'history' on 1996 / 1997 cars.
Check the condition of the cams / known 'history' 1996 / 1997 cars.
Check for water leaks into the footwells and boot.
Some general tips:
Have the car inspected by an expert before you commit any money.
Drive a few, they are like clothes, some will suit you, other won't.
Hold back some money, 6000 mile service fees can range from £350.00 - £1500.00
depending on what needs doing.
If you can find a car with Nitrons fitted the handling will be vastly
improved. If not, this is a good investment to add to a car and you
would need to allow about £1500.00 for that.
I hope that helps a little.
Good luck.

Welcome Duke.
Don't listen to the BLUE FRINGE.
red is the ONLY colour (besides yellow) to have.
There is a very good parts board on this site wheere you can post any parts you want to get rid off for FREE!!
Good luck hunting.
Yellow or red derivatives suit a TVR the best

OI!!
Leave me alone to thank the lord for not buying BLUE!!
Red is well know to inflame the passions like no other colour.
I wish I'd done the same especially with my record of blue failures in the last 12 months!
Respect mate!
Ha, two can play at that game!!

Blue is a colour to reserve for mondeo's and police cars. Its not a colour to excite.
Red is dynamic and suits the emotion of the car, does not fade despite the machinations of the boring blue brigade.
Yellow is just plain gay, with a come get me slant.
Green should be reserved only for Astons.
Silver should be reserved only for jags when the driver is older than 60.
I have a blue, black and red car. Which do you think I'm driving today?

LOL!!
Cheers for all your replies guys, much appreciated!
My mate's one is green and I think it looks amazing, spider 18's made a big difference as well.
Not seen a Cerbera colour I don't like yet, but purple would leave me open to too many jokes from mates though - especially as I took the p*ss out of a mate's purple MGF for the entire time he had it.
Went looking at houses with the other half at the weekend, she still insists that TVR budget sign-off won't happen until Christmas though....
Cheers

Pauline, Greg!
my advice is to carry on the valuable research, check out a number of cars, check out Grahams site and get along to meet owners via PH or TVRCC events.
