Anyone got any recommendations of someone in Aberdeenshire for refurbishing my wheels which are pitting and corroding round the rims.

The biggest problem I'm finding is that not many do refurbs on 20" rims and even less of the ones that do, will do polished rims.

There are a few but they are all "dan Sarf" London way.

I've not phoned them yet but how are the guys at Newburgh?

Turriff Tyres.

They dont do the refurb in house but they send them away and the job on mine was top notch.

Not knocking PPS as I have never used them but have heard very mixed reviews on the quality of work.

Forgot about turriff Tyres. They did my M3 wheels 10 years ago and were amazing.

Googled "PPS" and loads of other forums turned up saying good things about them, although it was nearly always for powder coating not polished rims........choices, choices.

Thanks guys

Keith won't do polished rims ... Powdercoat and a laquer, or carbon fibre!

I do hear Turriff tyres are good ... maybe worth a phone ... 01888562929

Carbon Fibre?????? That would be something different.

Do you think he could laminate carbon fibre on over the polished rim, leaving the spokes as they are?

Its only the rims that have an issue.

A call might be needed here.

I have a fair bit of experience with refurbing wheels and can say the following;

Finesse Coatings in Aberdeen: Quality work but quite expensive. Massive range of powdercoat colours.

PPS in Inverurie: Had 2 x sets of wheels done here and no complaints from me. Went for satin black powdercoat and very pleased. Very reasonable on price too. Less choice of colours but if you like what they have then they're hard to look past.

Mike The Polisher in Glasgow: He is 'the man' when it comes to split rims. I had a set of 996 GT3 split rims that were in a sorry state sent to him. They came back better than new. Not cheap but with split rims you get what you pay for. I went for a polished look powercoat for the rim to avoid the pitting that all split rims suffer from in UK conditions. They look awesome. The VW boys swear by him.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

James

Yip PPS do CF, fibre glass, powder coat and i'm sure plenty more ....
For the right money i'm sure they could do anything ... however laying a laminate of CF over an already damaged surface could end up in the CF popping off at a later date due to corrosion?

I know he's done Scooby Scoops and Bonnets in his time.

I was originally planning on getting them diamond cut but you guys have giving me a headache now which way to go (a happy headache mind).

Guess I'll call them all and see what can and can't be done.

Got to balance the cost against just getting a new set for a bit more.

Speak to Dave at Motorwerks in Forest Avenue lane, they offer a refurb service for any type of wheel and finish with a one week turnaround usually. Had several sets done and always top quality work.

Don't use finesse, crap.

Now that could be handy cause I was going to speak to them about a re-map for my daily driver anyway..............2 jobs in one visit, maybe.

I've got a set of 22" diamond-cut wheels that I'm looking to get re-done.

Team Dynamics offer a refurb service (my wheels aren't TD) which comes with a 12 month guarantee - http://www.team-dynamics.com/page.php?identity=rim... They're not the cheapest but look like they'll be as good as anyone.

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of them or anyone else for diamond-cut?

I used Motorwerks for the standard 19" wheels on my E46 M3, they send them away tp Pristine IIRC, and the finish on the M3 wheels was fantastic. I also usedthem for the standard 18" BBS RCs on my Golf Anniversary, just done them plain sparkle silver as they were winter wheels when the BBS LMs were off, again the finish was perfect.

I used Finesse for a set recently as they were cheaper, good finish but crap colour of Silver, nothing at all like wheel silver, won't be going back

Do you remember how much it was at Motorwerks? Tried calling them yesterday but no answer.

I'm looking to get my stock 17's done so I got a quote through Law's tyres who are Pristine agents too but they quoted £80+ per wheel because of postage costs and £15+VAT per wheel to remove/refit and balance the tyres.

Quoted £45+VAT at PPS, but can only powder coat so i'd need to buy an extra paint match can at £17 and do the plastic centre caps myself. Also need to remove/refit tyres seperately.

Used Finesse for my subframe. Was ok but I don't think i'd use them again.
