As the car is not in warrantee anymore i'm thinking of doing a mid service oil change.
the oil looked pretty black when i checked it the other day!

1) Is it worth it or is it fine on the long life oils?
2) what oil should i put in
3) where is the best place to get a new sump plug/filter/oil?

2006 Z4MC 30k miles inspection 2 about 6-8k ago, oil service due 6-7k

Doing an interim oil service wouldn't affect your warranty or normal service schedule anyway as it isn't something that goes down in the book.

The oil to go for is the Castrol Edge 10W-60. You'll need around 6 litres of the stuff. The other bits are probably worth sourcing from BMW directly. Try Joe @ Sopers of Lincoln as they're usually very reasonably priced.

As for it being worthwhile. It's not going to do any harm and if you have the time & money I'd recommend doing it.

I always do an interim oil drop and use Opie oils who do the Castrol on offer and free postage a few times a year. OEM filter only about £12 form any dealer but I have a generic filter in. Might be OTT but gives me peace of mind
