I'm currently having a massive sense of humour failure over the ineptitude of the "national gas" company. Three weeks in to a 2 day job to replace a back boiler and fire front, they turned up today with the wrong fire front so the job still isn't finished, so I still can't get tenants in the house (as it has no heating or hot water or energy certificate) so kiss goodbye to that rental income for another month. And not only have they taken all the money already without completing the job, I've lost another days pay (I'm a contractor on a daily rate) plus travelling expenses (its my rental property in London I live in Northampton) and I'm faced with either having to hotel it overnight in London or travel back to Northampton tonight and back down again tomorrow when they turn up with the correct fire (promise this time we'll get it right, honest).

You can imagine how delighted I have been to receive three "customer survey tell us how we've done with your recent work" letters (to the wrong address).

The credit card company have suggested they are in breach of the consumer credit act by taking the full amount without completing the works, that aside when I've calmed down and the job is finished I'd like to put my thoughts in writing - just wondering if anyone can recommend a person higher up/less generic than "head of customer services" ?

Go have a word with your solicitor and get them to write a letter for you. It may cost you some money but the gas company are more likely to respond if they think there is a possibility of a small claim for the money against them.

Thanks chaps. Just heard that the correct fire front is being couriered up from a supplier in Bournemouth and should be here by 7:30pm and the engineer will be here at 7:30pm to fit it tonight so there is a chance the job will at last be completed and I may get back to Northampton tonight!
