Havent received new log book, tax due, help...

Hi i bought a 2nd hand car in dec and am worried as i have not got the new logbook in my name, all i have is section 10 and 11 of the old log book, the tax is due at the end of this month so will need the new log book for this.

what are my options? im thinking maybe the seller never sent of the old log book but unsure

You don't need the complete V5 to tax a car.

Only the slip you got when you bought it.

If you're paranoid, you can obtain a form to request a new log book at the post office. You can pick one up when you're there. I would however suggest being patient as I think there is a fee associated with it.

ETA: Alternatively I'm fairly confident you can also do this online /over the phone.

just checked on the dvla website and a section says this-


This vehicle can be licensed at a DVLA Local Office without the V5C Registration Certificate


so really not sure what to make of it

the section i have left is 10( new keepers details) and 11(notification of permanent export




can i just use these parts to tax the car?

just noticed as the seller taxed the car for me before i bouught it theres a post office stamp mark on the section 10 of the v5, will this be a problem?

Sounds like the previous 'owner' didn't have the V5 either. You wont be able to tax it at the post office. Have you HPI'd it?

How do you work that out when the OP has Ss 10 and 11??????

they had the v5 as i signed my part, is my only option only to fill in the v12 form now?

i cant as that part can only be used once at the post office and the seller has already done this!

Did you miss the bit about the post office stamp on that little slip of paper?

I can't say with any certainty that this wouldn't be a problem, however OP, it's worth giving it a go, and if it is a problem then you need to get a replacement V5 quickly.

Edit- actually, OP ring the DVLA and explain the situation, they should be able to tell you if the car is registered in your name. If it is, then get a new tax disc online- the new disc will be delivered to you.

Yes but it seems odd they taxed it with part 10 when they had the full V5C.

10 and 11 can follow the car around forever as they never need to be sent off to DVLA.

I would be applying for a new V5 as it's likely the seller 'forgot' to post the V5 you signed.

have you not been concerned that 5 months on you haven't received the V5?? I'd have been on the phone to the DVLA and the seller every day after about 3 weeks!
