When is "News" not "News"?

I see the Ted Lowe thread in the News Forum was closed down as there was a similar thread in the Sports Forum. Not everyone bothers with the Sports Forum that much but most of us will look at the News Forum.
On what criteria does "the management" decide that someone's death isn't a "news" event?
I domn't recall the Liz Taylor thread being shut down because it should have been in the movie forum.

From my perspective in general anything I see that has a news link I will usually move to the News forums.
Sports personalities as with musicians/singers would in the main get moved to Sports/Music etc.
The Ted Lowe one in question had a thread stared on Sunday? IIRC as did Sir Henrie's thread, both of these were placed into sports as that's where they would probably be best known and reach the correct audience.
As you've said some do not ventures into sports forum, like other members do not venture into the news forum.
No real problem with threads running in both sections really, but as the Ted Lowe one I closed was raised today and only had 3 posts the last one being at 8:44 this morning I'd thought I'd combine.

I still think deaths should stay in the general news section. Most well known people who die are well known for some reason and there is a good chance we might have a sub-forum that covered their particular profession. If Sir Patrick Moore dies (heaven forbid), will that news end up in the space forum, which is actually referred to as the "Planes, Boats and Trains" forum?

I started it in the Lounge as I thought this might have the widest audience. Ted Lowe's commentary was a element of many of our lives and the "Sports" sub-fora wasn't the immediate place to put it. News, politics and Economics isn't ideal either really, as it is a bit highbrow maybe. These are more a "Red Top" type of thread, hence placing it in the lounge.
In the old days it would just have gone in the general lounge and been seen by the majority. News of this sort should be left in a forum where the greater readership can pick up on it.
The same applies to the Sir Henry RIP thread.
Both the Richard Holmes RIP thread seems to have survived in the N,P &E. Should they not be (combined) in TV & film ?
I think particularly these tribute threads to national personalities/treasures/heroes should be left, at least for a period of time, in the busier forums so the wider readership can join in.
What happens when, say, Murray Walker, Jackie Stewart or even Bernie E go to the "paddock in the sky" ? And Charlie Watts or Mick Jagger ? Or HM Queen even ?
I would want to discover they have passed away sooner rather than later. Perhaps Ted's death (in many years or course) ultimately will just get moved to "website feedback" ?
Whilst I use "whats new", I do look at the Lounge & N,P & E amongst others first to see what has been occurring and I do not regularly haunt the "sports" pages on here.
Not having a pop here, Al, but sometimes a modicum of appreciation for the dissemination of news to the overall general readership might be considered over and above the desire to move a thread immediately to a relative backwater just because it slightly features a sporting (or music) theme.
There is a time and a place for tidiness
