Racecar Build - Scottish Mini Cooper Cup

Well, first let's do a quick summary of last season's prep:













Add in an engine rebuild and that pretty much sums up a "character building" season.

End of the season I sold my car due to unemployment. New job, so, I have taken leave of my senses once again. Used the extra day off from the royal wedding to go down and buy:


Have so far bought the rear wing it needs off eBay, rest to follow.

To do:
- strip interior
- strip suspension
- strip all sound deadening
- strip engine and gearbox out
- weld here'n'there
- install cage and safety equipment
- coilovers
- adjustable rear ARB
- rebuilt engine and gearbox

Where do you guys run? Can't just be at Knockhill surely?

2009 was 6 rounds Knockhill, 1 Cadwell, 1 Kirkistown
2010 was 6 rounds Knockhill, 1 Oulton, 1 Croft (maybe Castle Combe actually, I missed that one)

This year, away rounds are Cadwell and Donnington iirc.

Which coilovers do you run?

Racing's been really close this season, I'm itching to get back out!

Use either AST or Leda. I'll be using AST as you can no longer buy new Leda units.

What are the power (etc) figures for a race prepped one of these?

I love race series like this, the fact I could go buy a Mini tomorrow and turn it into a racing car really appeals

Engine prep is limited to Superchips ECU, airfilter and cat back exhaust. Throws out about 135-140hp typically. Not a bad gain over the stock 116ish.

Damage wise, you can buy insurance, but really its all on you. Everyone pays their own damage, regardless of whether they caused it or not.

Minor update, picked her up today. Cruised home at a decent lick, runs nicely

Picked up a few spare bumpers as well (hopefully won't be needing them soon!)

Rear wing is no longer in production but managed to source one off ebay. First task, take the mounts off and put them on the right way round so that the angle of attack was less than 45deg and the aero profile of the wing was the right way round for driving the car forwards...
