Hoping for a genuine Insurance Persons advice here, House Insurance due for renewal and there's an ongoing claim that isn't settled yet. If I change companies due to price or poor service, will it affect the outcome of the claim?

I am not an expert but we had a similar issue and didnt know the answer and stayed with our insurer, howeverit didnt improve the service.

I think there may be advantages to staying as your current insurer will know the likely claim cost, outcome etc, a new insurer will have too guess at this and it might adversely affect your premium.

Might be better changing once the outcome is known. Well tahts the thought process we went through. In theory I'd never buy insurance based soley on premium as when you claim service is so important. Only problem is it is not until you claim you know what the service is like!

It won't affect the outcome of the claim however you will not necessarily get an accurate quotation from another insurer until full claim settlement details are known.

So, you might be quoted x with another company now but once the claim settles (through your existing insurer) you would need to advise full details to the new company who may change the annual premium (up or down) and you would need to pay the extra (if it went up).
