Just seen an AM V8 Vantage roadster advertised on this site for £73,950, with 7.5 thousand miles on the clock. Same car was on sale at a main AM dealer for £75k in November 2010 with two or three thousand miles on the clock.

Realistic depreciation or dreamer?

Always fancied a Nissan Skyline R34. These seem to be pretty much static in price. Not easy to find a good one for under £30k which for 10 year old car that had an OTR price of £54k is not bad.

Lotus Carlton has stopped depreciating - but there are plenty of examples - like Delta Intergrales or 20-year-old hypercars. Everything has a value that it won't pass.

As for "new" there is not much that won't lose at least some percentage (or VAT in the UK) - even Veyrons will eventually depreciate.

Old Minis
And from what I've seen R34 Skylines and Classic 500s.

Bought my E Type in 1990 for 25k, could probably sell it for about that now. I´ve spent a lot on it during that time, new bonnet, major structural repairs, bare metal respray, 2 engine rebuilds (don´t ask!) etc. etc. etc. BUT had I bought new and changed, say every 3 years, would have lost a lot more on depreciation. Pretty slick argument eh?, one I use regularly with Mrs Fareaster ! even works sometimes....

Ditto Minis.

Rarey see any decent ones now for less than £2k and most are north of £3k especially the special edition ones.

I've had 4 Minis and all were bought for less than £500 each and ran into the ground and scrapped for £50.

I gave away my last one, a blue 1275GT. Engine was very strong but typically the bodywork was made of paper.

Looking back I should have garaged it and waited until I could have affordrd to restore it.

VFR 41V are you still alive?

A good MK1 or MK2 Golf GTI stopped depreciating a while ago.

Oh God, wish I hadn't sold my lovely 1992 Red MK2 now!

I think good Clio 172 Cups will become rarer and rarer and go the same way as the MK2 GTI. Infact any of the Renault Sport models.

We bought a Suzuki Jimny for 7,800 5 years ago.

It was written off earlier this year and the insurance payout was 6,500.

I reckon we could have sold it privately for 7,800 (had it not had the argument with the black ice / wall).

Even so £1300 depreciation over 5 years will do smile

You are an optimist.

I bought a four year old Jimny in October last year for £5800.

And I reckon I paid too much.

my 1988 morgan cost its original owner 15k from the factory

I bought it for the same 2 years ago, and judging by ads I have seen recently it could be worth upto 17k currently.
