One of my moments of the year is glimpsing the top of the latest one as I drive in.........how do they keep it secret?

The 1999 Audi wasn't a representation of "The Wall of Death". It was meant to denote the steep banking at the old AVUS track.

It could have mentioned the ford sculpture was a recreation of their 1-2-3 placing at Le Mans in 1966 and the Alfa sculpture was supposed to represent the cloverleaf synonymous with Alfa. I really expected better of the Torygraph

The slender and elegant Honda sculpture in 2005 remains my favourite. I loved how they also made it move with the rotating masses. Then in 2006 Renault followed up the best sculpture with a giant Pringle shaped tent.

Its a shame that over the years they have done away with the display of cars round the green by the sculpture - it makes that part of the grounds look a bit barren.

I agree that the Renault 'tent' was a bit of a dissapointment compared with some of the other sculptures but at least they made up for it by playing tunes on their F1 engines!

Absolutely right, Eric. Lazy journalism from the Telegraph on that one. I really loved that Avus tribute display. Awesome piece of banking last featured for grand prix at the 1959 German GP, with fatal consequences for Jean Behra in the sports cars race that preceded the GP.
