My 2005 530i has been sitting in the garage without use for a few months and the battery went flat. I have used my 12v electrical wall plug charger to recharge the battery. After charging I turned on the engine and a series of electrical faults appeared.

• Wipers run continually
• Electric windows cannot be operated
• Power steering not working

The car is declared SORN and intend to sell it so I cannot drive the car on the road. Is it a matter of resetting the CPU, or does anyone know what to do?

I should declare that I have no idea but...

After having to have a battery replaced this week I was amazed at the number of things that the garage had to reset afterwards as part of the install - eg steering centre, electric windows, ESP, ABS etc. All sounds quite similar to your issues.

You need to have most of the electrical items recoded by a dealer. They will charge you for about an hour but they will want the car for longer

Had the same problem on my 530i with an older battery, loads of spurious faults. Save yourself loads of grief and buy a new battery which you can find for about £110, the only fly in the ointment is you will have to get it registered to your cars OBC which means a trip to an Indy or a Stealer. There is no workaround as the OBC needs to know its a new battery and to charge accordingly. Hope this helps good luck.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Helios69 you hit the nail on the head, I found a specialist here in London and they will put a new battery and reset the OBC. Am surprised the battery lasted 6 years.
