Good Afternoon all

Just signed up. Been lurking a bit and decided to have a change of scenery. You may have seen my user name pop up in other places such as Civinfo.net and Briskoda, but my main haunt is FinalGear where its getting a bit stagnant of late (and theres not many UK'ers!)

My name is Alex, I live in the Midlands (though originally from Teesside... up the Boro!) and Im currently doing a doctorate at Loughborough Uni. I did my Undergrad here and have an MEng in Engineering. My PhD is in conjuction with Caterpillar, working on some very exciting stuff. I did venture out into the real world and its a bit of long story how I ended up at Alstom in Rugby. I wont dwell on my time there, but needless to say it was the most dreary and boring year of my life and I dropped out their Grad scheme to do something much more interesting. I basically wasnt even being used, let alone challenged at Alstom...not really ideal for career development.

Anyway what I do now is fun, I get to live the student life and when you take into accound tax free earnings, tax exemptions and no commute... I am actually better off financially. Magic. Not sure if I'll be staying in engineering or maybe moving out to high finance, depends on prospects/salaries/future earning. If I stay in engineering I almost certainly wont be staying the UK, I'll be moving to Oz.

I drive a 06 Civic ES 1.8 i-VTEC which I co-own with my girlfriend and my main hobbies are competitive swimming and amatuer photography. Slowly getting my girl into cars and I have her salivating over bright orange Focus ST's and various Alfa's so I will make a petrol head out of her yet!

So thats me! Looking forward to becoming a part of the forum and hopefully getting to actually meet like minded people because of it. (As I said FG has very few UK'ers so its hard to meet up with people)

Welcome

Look at stickys at the top for upcoming events and check back regularly (things do break out at short notice e.g. cinema trips, beer festivals etc

Cheers

Welcome.

Make sure you check out Ashby Folville on the 2nd Tuesday of the month as well. Definitely worth a drive down.
