Driveway needs resurfacing + parking question
Discussion
We've just moved in to a 1950's semi which has a shingle covered driveway within our bounds. Outside our property bounds there is a grass verge, which the driveway crosses until the dropped curb some 3 metres or so away. The crossing looks to be 1950's original - a mix of a thin concrete drive and stone walkway running parallel, which were merged some time in the past to make a wider drive. Both have long since broken up beyond recognition. Large areas of damage have been filled in with shingle.
We've trying to find out who is responsible for the verge crossing? Do we treat is as our drive and therefore contract and pay for the upkeep, or do the council have to maintain it (at our expense??)? The driveway opposite is newly laid tarmac, but the owners are also new so don't know who did that.
Also, can we park a vehicle on it overnight, as there is no path across it so we're not blocking pedestrian access?
Anyone any experience of this sort of thing or know who we should ask?
Thanks,
Ps. I'll try to take some photos if that'll help explain it more clearly.

Didn't searches/ legal stuff give any indication, when buying the house?. I would have thought they would have clarified the access/ownership etc...
Bit of a dilemma if asking the council for advice, once you are on their radar they will probably insist on you using one of their 'approved contractors' which will probably cost twice as much as anybody else!

Exactly my reason for not asking them initially!Bit of a dilemma if asking the council for advice, once you are on their radar they will probably insist on you using one of their 'approved contractors' which will probably cost twice as much as anybody else!
We loved the house, so it wasn't an issue raising specifically as there were more important issues that needed dealing with. We can live with the drive as is as it has a certain weathered charm!
Will get some photos done.
If you were responsible for it it should UBS been picked up in the searches. Your solicitor should know. Either that or they did a pretty poor job of the conveyancing...
What is in your title docs?
No expert, but have had a few moves and always check what the solicitors are doing as I don't trust them ;-)

I'll check. They did find all sorts of issues which I wouldn't have noticed (and the survey missed), so I think they did a good job. What is in your title docs?

Did I just praise a solicitor?
