Hello
update on my XJ8 that lasted 10 days in my hands.
Briefly it dumped me on the M25 after cutting out in the outside lane.
It wouldnt restart, apparently it had flooded.
Kent Jags have said it's the throttle body and have estimated a £800 bill.....gulp.
Please send donations to........................

Might just need a clean. If you remove the trunking that goes into it and spray a cleaner into it. Did the trick for me

Ha ha! The faulty throttle body is a well-known fault. Getting out of it for £800 sounds OK to me. I presume that is why the previous owner sold it?

Try the Jag forums, you'll read plenty of tales of woe.

Yeh thought about buying secondhand but might be buying the same as i have now. I want to be able to go out in the car and not be thinking its going to break down all the time.
I havent got money to throw away but a new one should sort the problem for good.
Should it not?

Please give it a clean. Will cost you a fiver for the can. My car used to cut out every few miles as well as hesitation on kickdown. Couple of squirts of the cleaner sorted it out

We're going back to July 2009 here, but I had my throttle body replaced free of charge by a Jaguar main dealer on an old 1998 XJ8 that I had. I think it was a Technical Service Bulletin rather than a recall but Jaguar were making an exception and doing it free of charge, this wasn't good will by the dealer as I had never even been there before! I think this stopped in early 2010 but worth investigating.

My car would cut out after 25 miles or so of fairly constant speed motorway driving. The car would always restart if you turned it off and on again once you'd parked up - quite scary on the inside lane of the M25 though!

I had the same trouble with my old X308 XJR. Surrey Jag Centre in Croydon replaced it for nearer £500 IIRC.

Might be worth giving them a bell.

Similar story here, I had heard that there could be a problem, and again as earlier stories I took mine into main dealer (Rybrook in Warrington) for some other work that I wouldn't chance at an indie and they amazingly said that there was a service bulletin that required Jaguar to replace the throttle body for free, and thats exactly what they did, I asked a few more questions, and this may help your case at a dealer, and the upshot was that this has potential for causing a serious accident and they wouldn't take the chance.

This was around 2009.
Now I would phone round the dealerships saying that your car has a potentially seriously dangerous issue and lay it on a bit thick and one just may respond positively, from memory the service code was SS15, but I could be wrong.

I also think that they could have been held responsible in some way had they fixed the job that I had sent the car in for and then released it without checking the recalls, and therefore a dodgy throttle body still onboard.

There is a throttle problem on mine at the moment...........can't keep my foot off it wink

Good luck with it !

It's not just the throttle body anymore, it's dropped a valve as the previous owner skimped on having all the tensioners done. The advert for the car made a big point about not buying a XJ8 that hasnt had the uprated tensioners fitted. Unforunatly the car is well beyond economical repair.
Still on a much happier front I have bought a 04 X type 2.5 V6 AWD less than 25000 miles from a Jag main dealer. Better luck this time i hope ;-)
