Hi,
I'm about to buy a Chimaera and would like to know what sort of money others are paying for their insurance.
I would be looking at a limited mileage policy of approximately 6000 miles a year.

So, I would be very grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of insurers who give really good value for money.

Cheers,

Ged

Your question is impossible to answer.

Lets say you are a retired 55 year old living in rural Scotland with no points, lock your car in a garage every night and have lots of no claims bonus, you may well pay £200 or less.

However if you are a 22 year old pub manager, live in central London, leave your car on the street, have 6 points and one previous claim you could easily be looking at £2000 plus.

So you see there are way too many variables to give you a meaningful answer.

The best thing to do would be have a ring around to get some quotes.

I am insured with MSM who were the cheapest for me.

Their service has been excellent too.

Classic and specialist insurance do not use "NO CLAIMS BONUS" I Paid £350 for my car being modded from a 4l to a 5l and declaring all the modifacations but i did get a quote as a standard 4l with A PLAN for £160..Mine includes track days and Recovery UK and Europe..

I pay just under £400pa for a 5,500 mile policy with track days included. But I'm in my twenties, I live near London and I've got a recent claim, so I probably pay more than most.

You do need to speak to the specialist insurers. The mainstream companies will quote you silly ammounts of money usually, but people like Manning UK, Adrian Flux, Footman James, Competition Car Insurance (CIC), Lancaster and so on will be more realistic. TVRs are exceptionally good value to insure; perhaps second only to the more lary kit cars for mph-per £ of premium! smile

I pay around £330 for mine - heavily modified SC400 - with Mannings.

Limited to 3000 miles pa.

The cost is highly influenced by the number of miles you want cover for, so don't overestimate - you can always up it later if needs be.

Your postcode can make a huge difference too.

I pay £400 and my car is not modified and live in Birmingham, whilst someone on this thread is paying much less and has SC.

Best advice is to call all of them and see what you can get.

I would ask if you can put the miles up before you sign-up. I went for 5000 last year and used them up in no time... The insurance company wouldnt let me have any more miles on a classic policy.

There's a TVR insurance wiki in General TVR Stuff & Gossip.
