anyone tried to weld teeth onto a broken window regulator?

The ones broken on my saab convertible and a new one is not cheap the motor still works fine its just three teeth are chipped on the arm and wondered if anyone has ever tried to weld them then file them back into shape?

Ebay or scrapyard would have thought would be safer bet.

Yes, and quite successfully. We used to have window winder mechanisms on security hatches on cash carrying vehicles, so they were up and down all day like a pair of wes nickers!

As they were specialist and expensive, if a couple of teeth broke I would gas weld a blob of weld in place of the teeth, hammer it flat and reprofile with a file. They used to last as good as the original.

Great I thought it would probably work so I will have ago at it, there is one on ebay but if I can save money and fix it myself why not.

Good on you. I get a lot of satisfaction from repairing stuff. Just repaired a heater valve off a BMW 7 series for a mate... I pulled it apart and found the coil was open circuit. I unwound the wire off the coil and the break was on the first turns of the wire. I re soldered the wire on and re wound the coil in the lathe!

Works perfect!
