The claims here look pretty impressive and there is one on ebay for £25!

I think you'll find it is just another piggy-back chip mod. The difference is that it is aimed solely at diesel engines and that seems to be where a lot of research is aimed at the moment.

An increase of 20%-25% (which is what they appear to be suggesting) is not unreasonable and merely brings older engines inline with the sort of performance we are seeing form newer designs. The worrying part is that it has taken some significant changes in fuelling system design to get those power increases in production cars.

I've seen some very serious power output (and more importantly torque output) from diesel engines in the past that was flawed by just two things - a narrow power band and a tendency to self-destruct. Modern engines are much more reliable in this respect and there are plenty of companies out there offering diesel chip upgrades.

If you want to try the tuningbox device they you need to find out who else has tried them, how long they've had them and in that time how many times has the engine had to be repaired. Any idiot with a bit of electronics knowledge can make such a system but it takes a real expert to make one that won't kill an engine inside of 1000 miles.
