I have a Netgear DG834G router with a desktop machine hardwired and a wireless laptop.

Everything has been great for about 3 weeks, but the last few days the router seems to drop the connection if it is unused for a few hours or overnight.

By powering down the router then repowering after 30 seconds, everything is fine.

Netgear tech support have suggested latest firmware - done it. Tried a hard reset and reconfiguring the router - done it.

My ISP (Demon) say they don't disconnect after any idle time.

My only thought now is to see if BT have been messing with the exchange lately.

Anyone got any other thoughts ?

I've heard that a few people are having issues with the most recent firmware dropping out the connection. Have you tried rolling back? (1.03 I think?)

Does your router have a connect on demand feature?

sometimes they are only connected when asked to do so, inorder to save power and depending on your connection, money, pay as you go broadband exists.

may be taking longer than the requesting program appreciates and timing out.
