Quick question for any people in the know on this subject. Friends wife had a great aunt who died recently and has been renting from local housing association for 30+ years...would his wife `still` be able to use the right to buy as she is next of kin? Dont know the full ins and outs but i seem to remember someone mentioning they did this a couple of years ago and then rent out the property. Anyone know anything on this subject as a few pals might throw a few quid in to finance the buy if its a goer? tia

If I recall correctly, she will have the right to buy if her name was on the tenancy, as a joint tenant (i.e. equally responsible for the rent) and has been for 5 years or more. This is not the same as being on the list of people being resident in the property.

This should give you some more information. http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/housing/pd...
