Classic & Sports Car "magazine shoot"

I thought I'd give a brief write up on the shoot yesterday.
The premise for the article is 'are established classics worth the extra outlay or are the newer cars better?' This meant pitting a series of older cars against something similar but newer.
The ten cars chosen for the article were:
Truimph TR4 --- TVR S
Austin Healey Sprite --- Suzuki Cappuccino
Morgan Plus 8 --- Panther Kallista
Lotus Elan se --- Scimitar 1800ti
MG --- MX5
A pretty interesting group of cars I think.
The group met up in Abergavenny then relocated fifteen miles North in convoy to a quarry (in Trifil if your really interested) for the group shot picture (which was originally going to be the cover shot but unfortunately is being changed to just the MX5 and MG roadster. I imagine to up the shelf appeal of the magazine (the accountants get in the way of art to often don't you think?) The image below is my poor representation of the article opening shot, I didn't have the use of the photographers tripod or stepladder unfortunately. The other is my favourite of my car in position.
All the interior, engine, badge and wheel shots were also taken at this quarry site (blimey was it dusty!)
About three hours later we were put into our pairings for the action pictures. These consisted of the usual overtaking images you see all the time in the mags, this was good for the S as its lower than the TR so gets to be nearer the camera.
The writer then took each car for a fifteen to twenty minute drive to form his opinions. I hope he liked it (I feel a certain responsibility to all on this forum!!) and his response on his return were "its such a bargain" (as we all know) so hopefully the article will be favourable.
Each car should get a page in the feature with perhaps greater coverage of the MX5 and MG.
In short if you get the opportunity to go on one of these magazine features I'd advise you grab it with both hands. Its a lot of hanging around (not a problem in the sunny weather, may be not good if its pouring down) but it was great chatting to all the other petrolheads and having a good nose around some interesting cars, with the added bonus of getting your pride and joy in a glossy car magazine.
I'm not sure exactly which month it will appear but its got to be soon (not much point doing a feature on open top sports cars after the summer has gone!!!)
P.S. Some of you may know the owner of the TR4 as he owns a Chimera and is the guy who manufactures those clever 'Surrey Roof' panels for Chims and Griffs (he tells me that he is still working on the prototypes for the S as well).

I,D buy your car over the TR4 anyday, plus over all the others but then I am biased. Great looking "s" and the wheels are just how I want mine to look- nice and shiney and with the black bits still there. .A TR4 for possibly 1O-15'K.for someone whose a victim of fashion and with more money than sense or a someone with some imagination and individuality- a TVR S for between 4-6K...... NO BRAINER. Let's hope the article agrees rather than pander to the stereotypes

It'll be a good piece if it's been written by Graeme Hurst who wrote our TVR comparison article.
I think Graeme organised the feature but its being written by a freelance writer called Simon Charlesworth who has also done articles for Practical Classics if I remember correctly.
