New England cricket captain(s).

They've taken job sharing to the next level with three captains for three formats. Cook and Broad are obviously leading candidates for the Test job once Strauss goes which is fair enough. However Cook will find it tough leading the odi team since he's not even a regular in that format. And it's a shame to see Strauss quit one day cricket given his form in that format over the last 18 months.

it does seem rather odd having 3 captains , having said that the progress of the England cricket team has been excellent over the last few years & i feel we would have made a better effort in the world cup if the Aussie tour was not so long , If the people running England think this is the way forward then fair enough lets go with it ,
I don't have a problem with the three captains as they are all very different games.
However the selection of Cook as one day captain seems to mean we are returning to the days when the England selectors openly had a policy of using the one day side to blood people for test cricket...in this case letting Cook get used to captaincy under real pressure. Whilst Cook is a great test player he is not the kind of destructive hitter you need at the top of the order....there is not room in a modern one day batting order for two players like Trott and Cook....they are both accumulators (and very good ones) but neither of them can take a game away from the opposition. The last thing England want in a one day match is those two at the crease together for a prolonged period.
I actually think making Broad T20 captain is a very good move because he's one of the few players assured of playing in that side and it will teach him to control his temper.
