Ok here's my problem - bought a vehicle from a salvage auction classed as 'Cat C' then applied for the Vic test, Vosa said it's not 'Cat C' and doesn't have a marker against it, they told me to apply to DVLA for a log book. So form filled in and cheque for 25 notes sent off, DVLA have now written to say that the vehicle reg number does not exist, nor does the chassis number.

Now, once I'd bought it I checked with the manufacture that the recall works had been done, I supplied the reg and chassis number, they confirmed that all recall work had been done and vehicle was up to date!

There is no evidence of any tampering with the vin plate and also if I put the reg number into the selling section of flea bay it comes up with the vehicle details and engine size, date of first reg, etc, etc.

Sorry about the rambling above but does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
How come DVLA have no record of the vehicle?

DVLA have cocked up no doubt. Get a letter from the manufacturer confirming the details.

Nope, manufacturer confirmed it's a UK car, not an import.

Go to a GM dealer with the the chassis no and ask them to run it through their EPC system, see what comes up.

Admin error at dvla/registering of car I bet!

Hmm... based on all the evidence I believe you have bought KITT from Knight Industries. Does it have a button on the centre console marked "TURBO"?

Please tell me the reg plate has 404 in it (geek joke)...

Seriously though, this could be the DVLA screwing up the update when the Cat C tag was applied to it. As the guys have said, get the dealer to provide as much paperwork as possible and then beg the DVLA to fix it.

Ahh, good old DVLA.

I have had a honda CRX del sol import registered for the first time as.

Manufacturer: Toyota
Model: Carina XL Diesel
Type of Fuel: Petrol
Number of seats 4
Colour: Blue

A petrol diesel 4 seater, 2 seater, toyota honda carina XL CRX of the sun hybrid. They got the colour right at least!

Good work guys.
