Gone and bought one...
Discussion
After looking on and off for a while i've picked up a nice mk1 eunos 1.8. Not spent a fortune on it so i'm sure i'll have a few bits and pieces to do over the summer. I've owned and driven some quick cars in the past but i'm looking forward to some cheap, fun summer driving especially after some reviews i've seen on these cars. Also, no rain here for the past 3-4 weeks. Rain every day since i bought it.
I bought an X reg, 52k 1.6 yesterday to sell on. Never sat in one before yet alone driven one. I have to say that I have never been so dissapointed in a car after people raving on about them so much. Slower than a slow thing. My other half has a 1.4 DS3 that is far quicker.

There is 2, nay 3 things wrong here.Edited by biper on Friday 6th May 10:17
1. You were clearly expecting it to be fast in the first place. They are not fast cars, and no-one thinks they are.. until you stick some FI on there anyway

2. You were in the 1.6 anyway, so of course it wont feel as fast as a 1.8.
3. You were in the mk2, mk1 is better

Not expecting it to be fast, just not as slow.
I know it is a 1.6 not a 1.8. I was just comparing it to other 1.6's I have driven eg 1.6 Hyundia Coupe.
Having said this the car was owned by a lady that travelled 8 miles to work and back for the last 3 years so maybe after a few motorway miles it may 'clear it's throat'
The car is very well put together with no rattles or bumps and is a pleasent car to drive. Even at 6'4'' I was ok on my 60 miles drive home.

Biper, you need to give it some welly, these engines love to rev. Also it may need a bit of a blast to clear out the cobwebs if the previous owner didn't treat it to a regular hooning.
One of the most neglected parts of these cars is the fuel filter as it lives in an inaccessible part of the boot. Take it out and clean it, this has been known to work wonders.

Just had my first proper run in it. Think i need to look into this "foamectomy" mod for the seat. It has a smaller momo wheel but i am still having a few knee to wheel issues. First thoughts, its not fast but if you do wind it up and carry a lot of corner speed it is pretty good fun.
It'll be partly down to the way you drive it (i.e. drive it like a diesel and it'll be chronically slow. Drive it like you stole it by thrashing it everywhere and they are good fun) and partly down to the fact that they are not quick, especially a Mk2 1.6. Might also have a sticking calliper

And they love being rev'd.. Take it right up to the limiter (Around 6.5-7k) when its warmed up properly and find some twisties and you'll not want to sell it on..

They are nothing special in standard form on the straights (although my Mk1 seems to cope ok), but come alive on more interesting roads. They will compete with much faster machines with no problem then.If they don't, either the car has a problem, or the driver does.
