A couple of questions regarding the pullys on the R53 Cooper S Charger.

There are some claims to changing to a smaller one to get 20bhp more. Has anyone done this, and do the claims stack up? Also, do you need a remap at all or ar the AFR's (Air Fuel Ratios) OK if you do this.

Lastly, any pointers where to get one, and the tool to remove the old one.

Cheers

Its a very popular mod changing the pulley. You can change to a 15% pulley without changing anything else, if you go to a 17% its advisable to get an uprated intercooler but no remap is needed. I recommend 1320 Mini to work on the car (done all the work on mine). Check out http://www.minitorque.com/forum/forum.php it should help with your questions smile

^^This

Been running a 15% reduced pulley (amongst other mods mind you) for years with no probs.

www.1320MINI.com is a good place to go, get a health check done on the engine, before & after runs on their own dynothumbup

Just had the Gtt 210 conversion on ours (15% pulley) it goes brilliantly and runs like a watch :-)

Worth every penny I promise, it's bloody ace!!

Is that really £695+Vat? Not sure it is worth every penny for that price!

Pulley is about £80, plus 1 hours labour when I had mine done at 1320.

GTT210 ecu reset + optimised bypass valve + iridium sparkplugs + GTT supercharger pulley + shorter 'stickier' drive belt + GTT twin bearing idler pulley + performance panel filter. £695+vat FITTED

I guess if you add up the parts value, then the rest would have to be labour. Depends what their labour rate is per hour.

I was looking at this, but 1320 might be closer to me...

Thanks for all the informtion from everyone...

I shopped around a lot and it is much more than a pulley and belt...

They have done 500+ conversions with great feedback and service etc, we are very happy

FYI 1320 wanted a similar amount as did a number of others...

wow them prices are very steep!

GTT210 ecu reset = (free)disconnect the battery for a few moments
optimised bypass valve = (free) turn the adjuster till the valve is closed
iridium spark plugs = (£15) few moments to change them over
GTT supercharger pulley = (£80 Alternative [kavs]) no more than an hour labour
shorter 'stickier' drive belt (£20) Just a gates belt
GTT twin bearing idler pulley ~ Not really needed, never yet seen one fail, been working with minis and on them since 2004 including my own. **Edit, I have seen a GTT one fail...
performance panel filter = £20

total £135.00 to fit all that I would put aside 2 hours labour at about £45 per hour £225

All the prices are realistic and maybe your mechanic would need a little more time but the part prices include VAT and Kavs pulleys come with a gates belt saving a further £20

Above I would not bother with the idler. Most the items are easy DIY fit anyhow the only tricky part there is the pulley but with an £80 puller tool then its a few hours on your own.

Generally as above 17% have an intercooler, 15% should be fine

DIY Kit would cost about £245 as you need a belt tool and pulley tool, but you can sell them on after if needed (tool £30 & pulley tool £80)

Got nothing bad to say about Rolland or GTT just pointing out the same mods can be done for a lot less

I completely accept that, but wouldn't ever do it on my own (too much for me to cock up!)

Would love to see top spec iridium NGK's fir £15?!

Peace of mind is worth it's weight in gold for me and out of everyone I spoke with they were the best :-)

Thats is what keeps the companies going, I am lucky that I can do everything and its all easy but I understand not everyone can.

Plug price of £15 is what I can get them for the public should look at about £20 - £30 for a set

good information here, thanks. I looked at the kavs site, but they do not list the puller for the pully. Cant be that hard, or are there special tensioning tools required for the belt afterwards once you have fitted it??

Getting the original pulley off can be a bit of a pain.

There's a special tool for releasing the belt tension. They pop up on eBay every now and then for about £15.

Orranje performance sell the belt tool (about £30 posted) can be found on minitorque and the pulley tool can be brought off the internet quite cost effectively
