Well, my wee 206 HDi 1.4 is gone!

I had been actively trying to sell it for about a week and had 9 offers for it in total (7 online, 2 in person) and I was only £100 away from a deal. Meanwhile, looking to my next car I was browsing the 'bay and spotted a nice Mazda6.

Most of you will know, if a Mazda6 was a football player, the opposition fans would chant "Are you a Mondeo in disguise, are you a Mondeo in disguise, are you a Mondeo, are you a Mondeo, are you a Mondeo in disguise...."

Some emails were exchanged and I arranged to visit the 6's owner to have a look at each other's cars.

Anyway onto the car itself...its a 4dr TS2 model, with a 2 litre petrol engine, more than twice the power of the 206 and finally gets me back into a bigger car. 2 owners, full history, under 45k on the clock. Typical electrics all round, cd etc but with the added bonus over the equivalent Mondeo by adding cruise and climate.

A good long test drive in each car, a good look over, and 90 mins later we were doing paperwork to change cars, with me providing a couple of hundred quid cash. Based on values I've found online, and selling prices compared to the 206, the deal appears to be in my favour by £300-£500.

No major plans for the car, the windows appear to have been cleaned with pledge on the inside so I'll get that sorted out. Its got fitted Mazda mats so no need for new ones. Fresh wipers have already been bought on the way home. No servicing needed til October either. When it dries up here I'll get my grey/silver car polish out thats been sitting since the sale of my E46 a few years back, and a nice coat of wax on top.

I always liked the 6's and its quite Mondeo-like to drive as well, so I'm happy thus far.

That's a nice motor.

We have had 2 Mazda 6's while we lived in Florida, but in the USA they have 3.0 V6 engine's in them mated to a Sequential Box so can't really compare them to the 1.8 and 2.0's we get here in the UK. I really liked it and it was a bit different to all the Chevy's and GMC's around it.

This is what our second one looked like...

Back to yours though, Arn't the Mazda 6's based on the Mondeo platform? Or was that just on models post-2008?

It took a while to get used to the orange, but when you did it looked really good and would make a really good picture on the beach with the sunset going down

Mazda6's appear 1-2 years after the Mondeo. Very similar under the bonnet and very similar controls inside too. Makes a nice noise for a 4 cyl 16 valve!

Done 150 miles in it in 24 hours. Not bad on fuel at all. Average 40mpg, mostly motorway.
