Rear Hood Section

Since my Tiv is fortunate enough to go to bed in a garage every night, the roof's quite often off for a number of days in a row (it's my everyday car, hence the need to put the roof back on sometimes ). However, I always put the rear hood section back up, even if I'm certain that it'll be back down again the next day, as I've always thought that that was the best thing to avoid creases in the rear window (particularly after having a new window fitted).

I was thinking about this today, and I know that on hot days and/or when the car's been sat in the sun, the window becomes really soft and pliable, and it got me to wondering whether it'd actually be better to leave the rear section down to avoid folding and straightening the window all the time (I'm always very careful with the folding process), or whether I should stick to what I'm doing.

I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on the subject.

I do the same (put the hood up at night in the garage)

You might want to put a roll of some sort in the plastic as you fold it down -- stops it creasing. I use foam lagging for pipes. However this is a bit too light. I have had two blown away now (hopefully without wrapping around some poor unfortunate biker behind)!

I have tried a rolled up towel, but it just seems to get pushed upwards so that it sits above the fold/crease. Maybe I need to use a smaller towel so that the rolled diameter is less.

I was told by dealer when collecting my car

"Always put the rear section up even if you are going to put it stratight back down tomorrow"

I makes sense really as although the screen may be soft due to the sun, it will stiffen and contract over night as the temperature cools.
