Now i'm not one for being bothered in the sense of pestered if i'm just browsing around but if i make a decision on a car i may be interested in i would like a gentle helping hand in the form of a coffee, chat and the keys to have a poke about.
A friend of mine has been convincing himself not to buy a nissan gtr for the last 6 months because he has to many toys, he is 53 years of age and lets just say not short of a penny or two biggrin and always buys cash ( he is old school and doesn't believe in finance), he finally gave in today after a little persuasion from me and visited the dealer with the gtr, i rang him earlier to see how he got on , the bloody sales man never even got the keys, stood talking for 2 mins with the car locked and then buggered off rolleyes , even though my friend is very cautious with money i no for a fact if the guy had spent an hour with him that car would be on his drive tomorrow, i feel like ringing the idiots up and saying the guy that left after looking through the window of the gtr has enough money to buy most of your stock rolleyes

Doesn't your friend have a tongue in his head?

There's no shortage of crap salespeople, the UK seems to excel at crap customer service, but the public seem equally as inept at times.

I think what he is trying to say is, a man, pestered by what I assume must be a child, went to a dealership to look at a car he didn't really want and spoke to another grown up who didn't attempt to change the original person's mind.

I went to look at a Civic Type R and the salesman wouldn't check how many owners it had previously had because he thought I was too young (or too poor) to afford the car, he jut aid "Well...I would guess two owners, that's all I can tell you". Cretin.

Another (trainee) salesman asked me to explain to him what negative equity was because he didn't know.

I had one that insisted that he couldn't find the keys to a 1.4 TDi Polo so I couldn't drive it - he "looked for it" for 10-15 mins but couldn't find it. I gave him my number and left saying that I really wanted one (then), that I had the money and to call me.

A couple of weeks later (no call), I go there with my Mum who had a newer Polo and he came up and proudly said "I found those keys" and I proudly responded in a matching tone "I bought a different car". He looked a bit miffed.

Sometimes they need a prod. Sometimes they're just bloody hopeless.

I did once have a salesman tell me that he didn't see any point of me travelling to see a car if I was a cash buyer, as they made their money on the finance deal, hence no money would be knocked off the overpriced car.

I actually thought that was pretty decent of him.

It really doesn't sound like he was that interested in buying anything if he was put off so easily. I know whenever I'm buying a car it's difficult to curb my enthusiasm regardless of whether it's 4k or 40k.

After researching for weeks on the Focus RS, I booked a viewing and a test drive at Dunton.

Pulled up, parked the Astra VXR Nurburgring in the bay, in full view of the dealership, then walked in, still in uniform. Basically, the female sales "Person" started chatting about the car, saying it was fast (really?) spacious and a good drive, then when i asked some technical questions, i got a baffled look... Now for a supposed RS dealership, this was not the response i was looking for. Soon after, I pretty much got irritated with the avoidance of simple questions and the avoidance of letting me near the car.. Even though I came with cash deposit and made that perfectly clear.

Salepeople = Idiots in the UK.

When I got back to Germany I went to Hermansburg dealership and had my questions answered within 10 minutes and a test drive completed in under an hour from walking through the doors.

I find the power of free thinking a great tool..

you go somewhere to buy something, they take no interest, you use your feet and go somewhere else..

simples..

why get fretted up, someone will always sell elsewhere..

Oh come on, they were amusing for the first week and are now almost eligible for a copy of Saga magazine.

Save it for the more junior forums nowadays eh?

Every time I'e been to a car dealership I've been treated with nothing but courtesy and respect, the same way I act toward them.

You guys absolutely sure it isn't you, hmmm..?

Many finance deals have a guaranteed future value of the amount of outstanding finance at the end of the agreement. Which means if the car is worth less than the outstanding finance at the end of the term you simply hand it back.

It's not too complicated.
