Hi chaps,

I've been hoping to join the fold for a little while now and it was coming close to be a reality.

However, a stupid stupid low speed shunt that was my fault a couple of months ago, plus my need for business cover has given me ridiculous insurance quotes for my broker - over £5k. Bearing in mind I am married, mid 30s, no points, etc. and current policies are £3-400 on both imported MX-5 and modified Saab turbo.

They did quote me less than £300 on the S without business use but it's no good to me as most of my miles are for work (self-employed) and that's when I do most of my fun driving.

Does anybody have any experience with getting work cover on an S?

Be clear what you mean by business use. Driving between workplaces? Driving to see customers? Carrying work stuff, or door to door sales person?

I have several places I need to visit on a given working day and need to have business cover according to my employer. I told the insurance company that I wanted to be able to drive some of these if the sun was shining on an occasional basis and work from there for the day and they were fine with that - good premium on a couple of older cars

I am self employed and use the car to travel between workplaces (about 10 "normal" workplaces during the week and and any number of random one offs that could be anywhere in the country).

I think SDP+Commuting only covers you if you are an employee.

As suggested, try Mannings. Think they may still have a deal with the TVRCC....

Peart (http://www.peart.co.uk/) have always allowed full business use on my V8S policy for a small additional premium (£30 IIRC)and they have always been (nearly) cheapest when I have double-checked the renewal (£585 currently for protected NCB, full business use, unlimited mileage etc).

Apparently you cannot combine a classic restricted mileage policy with business use for some peculiar insurance protocol - surely miles is miles but that is insurance for you.
