Immaculate vw r32.

Parked in supermarket. Made conscious descision to park well away from door.

Went to get trolley, watched green merc van pull up beside my car. Had a funny feeling about it so lined myself up so I could see him open his door.

WHAMMO!

Bounced his door of mine!

Red mist!

Popped the trolley back and had went over for a WORD.

He Was immediately very apologetic (I'm 6' 5") but didn't have any excuse.. Lots of thoughts of all the times this has been done to me and others by human sputum like this guy running through my head. Very luckily for him damage was amazingly minimal, his rubbing strip hit mine and took a 1/4" spot off paint of my strip.

Figured the best I could do was give him a good scare in the hope it might make him be a bit more careful in future.

So demanded his contact details and then stepped away out of earshot to make a fake call to the police. He was clearly very concerned at this but vanished into supermarket.

So PHers, what would you do next? Accept it as one of those things? Get a price for paint repair and chase him for it? BiB?

Ive seen this sort of thing over the years happen to me and seen other people doing it!, I was actally sitting in my car when a old women hit my car with her door, ive lost count to be honest

here's a interesting thought, whenever you decide to park in a car park, away from the bussiness bits, plenty of spaces around you, you come back from shopping to find some nob jocky in some old banger parked right next to you even tho there's loads of other spaces!!, I think its somekind of sheep syndrome or safety in numbers

not really sure, but the lack of respect for other peoples property is astonishing bad nowdays

Do you have a goatee?

I bet you don't. That's where you went wrong.

I'd have chased him for the cost of a smart repair even on my shopping bus.

This has always astounded me also, it is acensoredholes like this that force people with nice motors (and would like for them to remain nice) to straddle two parking spaces in the vain attempt to stop somebody bashing their pride and joy. If I see/catch people being less than carefull next to my car I always have to have a word, I've even nailed one for repairs. The big problem is that you don't always catch them. furious

I've started parking the maverick at the other end of the car park, not because I enjoy the walk but for this reason and as you say, I always come back to my car surrounded! It is bright green so maybe like the flies when I wash it, they just can't help it!

Something very similar happened to me last year. I came back to the car to find an old shed parked next to me and some of his paint on a scratch along my door. I'm afraid I let my temper get the better of me and his car now has a size 10 foot print shaped dent on his drivers door. Not big and not clever, but it did make me feel a little better at the time.

I think people find it easier to park next to someone as it makes lining up easier

Sitting in the car in Buchanan Galleries today, just about to get out the car - woman comes back to her car parked next to mine, pushes her mirrors back out (so that nobody bashes them, obviously) and opens her rear door straight into my mirror rolleyes

Cause it's a MX5 I've got, she heard the OI! and the ensuing sweary words very clearly through the fabric of the roof.

I got 'sorry, it was an accident' in a tone that was very obviously 'why are you making a fuss?'. I don't get it - try to keep her own mirrors safe but not give a toss about anyone else's car? Grrrr.

Just park badly taking up 2 spaces in the future, everyone will assume you cant drive/park and steer clear.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to get some touch up paint and see how it goes.

At least I had the rubbing strips to save the metal work. I feel for anyone without these on a daily driver.

I like the idea of straddling two places at the far end of the park where there are plenty of spaces.

I just leave the good car at home and take the 12 year old 120k miler with me. If someone bangs my door, I bang theirs. Fair's fair and all that! If I don't bother washing it, then anyone with a newer car stays clear!

Posted this last year:

Meant to post these on the bad parking thread; on holiday in Cornwall the other week. Drove down to the beach in our sheddy Impreza around 9am and were the first car in the car park. Returned to the car a couple of hours later, to find this:

Now, obviously sometimes there is no choice but to park close, but you have to wonder what the hell was going through the driver's head to do this:

Why would you deliberately park like that in an empty car park in Cornwall, in November, that is going to remain just as empty all day? It's not even as if they had done it with their passenger door and not noticed, the bloody driver had to squeeze out of that gap. The mong.

could be worse - ive just got home after leaving the car not 10 minutes by the bank whilst i went to the cash point and the shop for some milk to come back to find a 3inch scratch on my passenger door which i know for a fact wasnt their 20 minutes ago as i washed it - im one of the most picky parkers ever and i will be honest on empty car parks where there is clearly loads of spaces i do sometimes put it across 2 spaces purely for the reasons discussed above - im fuming! the lack of respect people have for others property is beyond a disgrace! furiouscensored
